Author NotesWhen I first began writing this trilogy, I considered having no Aboriginal characters (since I am not Aboriginal myself). That stank of terra nullius so I created Matilda: a woman who has an Aboriginal mother and a British father, but who forges her own identity. Although I have a specific Aboriginal nation in mind for Matilda’s mother, and have been researching that nation and others since 2011, almost every Aboriginal person I have spoken to would prefer I didn’t involve them or their culture in this story (mainly because of the combination of history, fiction, and fantasy).
