The temperature had dropped significantly overnight, and I woke to Claire, naked, draped across the length of my body, clinging to me for heat as she shivered. It took me a second to realise that the blankets had fallen off us during the night. I knew I had to pick the quilt up from the floor, but I didn't want to shift Claire off of me, so I wrapped an arm around her waist and carefully rolled us both so that I could reach the quilt.
Using one hand, I grabbed the heavy quilt and swung it up and over the bed, covering us both, but the fabric was cold from lying on the wooden floor half the night, so I cocooned myself around Claire, hoping my own body heat would be enough to raise her own.
"How are you so warm? It's like an ice box in here?" She questions me, her teeth chattering
