Skye

The ding of a text message sounded through my bedroom. Eyes half open I blindly reached for my cell phone. I glanced at the time before opening the text, it was barely even 6 am, I opened the text message from my best friend Lainey: L- Omg I can’t believe your ceremony is tonight!!!! Aren’t you excited to find out who your mate is<3! S- Lainey! It isn’t even 6 am, I don’t even have the energy to be excited  L- You are such a killjoy Skye, see you at school! I rolled out bed and walked to my bathroom, well now I have time for a shower I mumbled. Waiting for the water to heat up I thought about how tonight my mate would finally be revealed, I only hoped it was somebody who would see past my rank of an omega. Stepping into the shower I grabbed the shampoo and started scrubbing my white blonde hair, then grabbed my favorite soap the scent of vanilla wrapping itself around me. I rinsed off and got out of shower and stood in front of the mirror, trying to see myself from another’s view, I had a cute face with silver eyes, my white blonde hair always in covering my eyes, I looked at my chest, they weren’t tiny but not too big, my waist narrow with rounded hips, I wasn’t bad to look at I guess, but there were girls who were more beautiful than I. I hoped my mate wasn’t too focused on looks. Rolling my eyes with a sigh I opened my dresser drawers reaching for the closest t-shirt and leggings, my eyes drifting over to the dress bag hanging on my closet door that contained the dress my mother had chosen for the mate reveal ceremony. I wasn’t supposed to see it before the ceremony, I hoped it wasn’t too girly, as that wasn’t my style. I was just finishing getting dressed when I heard my mother’s footsteps coming from the stairs, she poked her head around the door with a wistful look, “are you ready Skye?” I met her eyes in the mirror, just about done mom, I will be down in a second. “Oh, Skye, she laughed, I meant for your mate revealing ceremony, not for school!” Turning around, I shuffled my feet, looking at the floor, “I guess, I mean, who is really ever ready?” Sighing, my mom wrapped her arms around me and rested her forehead against mine, “Skye, mates are a gift from our maker, it is a blessing, I’ll never forget the moment my eyes locked with your father’s eyes, I fell in love that very moment!” Leaning a little back I looked into her eyes, mom I am happy knowing you and dad are a love match, but I just have a feeling I’m not going to have a love match. The alarm on my phone started blaring shrilly, I squeezed my mom a second longer before shrugging out her arms and silencing the alarm, I have to go, see you after school. My mom called after me as I raced down the stairs “ Skye, first sight love matches are rare, but I know you will be happy, love will come with time.”
