Alex's POV
I blew up the coffee Lucy had made, she doesn't always get the temperature right. It was always too hot. Picking up the remote, I turned in the television to catch the early morning news. My fingers automatically found the buttons to turn the volume up while I scrolled through my phone checking the business email that I could have missed.
“.....the former Lisa Carter engaged.”
I frozed. My ears immediately perked up. What had I just heard? The former Lisa Carter engaged? The voice had come from the television and that is where I directed my whole attention.
The newscasters kept on talking, but my confused mind could not barely make out what was going on. My gaze went to the caption in bold black type at the bottom of the screen.
It reads, MICHAEL SMITH THE RICHEST BACHELOR SETS TO GET MARRIED TO THE FORMER LISA CARTER IN A GRAND STYLE.
I gaped and tried to read it again and again but it still didn't change. The cup of coffee slipped from my hands.
I felt warm wetness on my thighs and almost had a crash. I looked through, my trousers and the couch soaked through. At my feet, the cup of coffee laid in a shattered fragment. I gave it a cursory look.
I got up and walked up the couch near the television so as to see clearly. My mind was in a whirl. Perhaps maybe it wasn't my Lisa. There had to be hundreds of Lisa's out there and Carter was by no means an uncommon name. My rapidly beating heart slowed down a bit by the thought. There had to be an explanation. There was a mistake somewhere.
And then, my heart fell, as a video clip popped up on the screen. The woman next to that bastard Michael was my beautiful Lisa.
Michael and Lisa were followed by the paparazzi and of course Michael's bodyguards. Lisa smiled and waved, I spotted a diamond ring on her finger.
The couples were about to enter the car when Michael turned back to answer a question posed by one of the reporters.
I nearly went mad, when the dark haired scar faced creep slipped his hands around her waist, pulled her close as he spoke about his engagement.
I felt like reaching out to him, twisting his arm and ripping it off her. The video ended and then the newscasters came back on screen. This time, he was with two guests in the studio. They kept talking about Micheal and also what led to our divorce.
I shut down the television, when I couldn't stand it anymore. Why on earth will that stupid mousy Lisa meet Micheal? How could she have moved on so fast?
I could have bet that she was so devoted to me. Even when she caught me and her best friend in bed, she still begged for us to stay married.
The worst thing is that she got married to none other than Micheal, the person I hate the most, my biggest rival. Inspite of him knowing that she was my wife, he still married her to insult me. To think of it, the ordinary woman I had once called my wife seemed to be basking in the sudden attention she was getting.
A headache slowly but steadily started building in my head. I tried to keep Lisa and her betrayal out of my head, but it was impossible to do.
“Alex love,” Lucy’s voice came floating in the room.
I didn't answer her, I didn't trust myself to speak at that moment. Soon I heard her approaching footsteps.
“Alex, I have been calling you. I wanted you to check out the-” She stopped talking. I felt her hand on my back, “Love, what is wrong?”
She nearly stepped on the smashed pieces of cup, but stopped herself in time. She sucked in a breath and instantly, she seated herself on the sofa beside me.
“The cup broke, did you hurt yourself?” She said,
She drew out the handkerchief and began to clean up the coffee stains on my crotch a little too vigorously.
“For God’s sake Lucy, do you want to kill me?” I snapped snatching the handkerchief.
I dabbed at my trousers and flung the soil handkerchief on the ground. Lucy's lips turned down at the corner. She looked hurt.
“You're upset,” she observed, “What is wrong?”
I pointed to the television, “That happened.”
She looked at the television screen then turned to me, with a shocked expression, “Lisa? Getting married to Micheal? How did that even happen? She is like nobody but he is like… the most influential person in the business world.” I shot a glance at her. She flushed, “I meant after you of course, you're the most influential person.”
“Of course I am. That Michael is just an upstart. He’s been lucky in his business dealings but that doesn't mean that he is the best. Very soon his luck will fade. He doesn't have a shrewd mind like I have.”
“Of course he doesn't, love.” Lucy said.
She rested her hands on my arms. Not wanting to be touched, I sprang on my feet and began to pace the room.
“I wonder what she used for him,” Lucy mused, “But that doesn't matter to us, love. Come and sit-”
“That's what I have been sitting here asking myself,” I interjected, only focusing on the first part of the sentence. “How on earth could she possibly have moved on so fast? Unless…” I stopped pacing abruptly as an unwelcome explanation occured to me. “Unless she had been cheating on me long before I told her that I needed a divorce.”
The thought made me hurt and mad.
“I wouldn't put it past her.” Lucy sneered.
“Do you think-” I began.
Lucy placed a finger on my lips, silencing me. “Ssh, what she has or has not, does not matter now. After all, you don't love her, do you?”
“Of course not.” I stated emphatically. Liar, an annoyingly persistent voice whispered in my head.
Smiling Lucy wrapped her hands around me. As if that was not enough, she brought her hands and put it into my trouser, trying to play with my c**k. “Good, don't let the news get you worked up. Besides, we have more important things to focus our attention on, don't we?”
A bit puzzled by her question, I frowned, “What’s that?”
Lucy laughed softly, took her hand and slipped it underneath her blouse and rested it on her stomach. “Our baby, love.”
With a sigh, I rested my forehead against hers. “Yes, yes. You're right of course.” But Lisa was printed at the back of my mind.
