“The heart, like the mind, has a memory. And in it are kept the most precious keepsakes.”

Luna Niki
As I listen to my daughter and my mate banter back and forth, I sit at my desk and smile. I look at the photo on my desk of my family, the four of us, before Rob joined the Moon Goddess. I wonder how things would have been if Rob had lived. How would he had led the pack? Would we have grand pups by now? How different would Gabriella’s childhood have been? Would she be the same strong-willed, intelligent, beautiful soul that had to grow up too fast?
“What is my lovely wife thinking about?”
I smiled at Peter, and sighed. “Just about my children”
“I miss him too.”
I feel a pang of sadness through our bond. I stride over to sit on my husband’s lap and place a kiss on his lips. I feel him growl as he moves to deepen our kiss. I lean back and sigh, this man still makes me want him as much as the day I met him.
“So, was our daughter giving you a hard time for adding a security detail to her vacation?”
Peter looked at me feigning a shocked expression, “My Luna, what are you insinuating?”
“I’m insinuating that you do not think our daughter, your future Alpha can take care of herself.”
“Of course I do. I just want to ensure that she won’t need to while she’s on her graduation present.”
“Pete, our Princess is the best warrior we have in our pack. I would even say her abilities would surpass Rob’s.”
“Maybe, but she shouldn’t have to be Alpha. I don’t doubt her abilities or dedication for a second, sometimes I just feel that she agreed to take over because she didn’t have a choice.”
“Gabriella was meant to lead. She is an Alpha by birth, I doubt she would have willingly been anyone’s Luna. And if she was, I could see her challenging her mate on every decision she did not agree with.”
Peter sighs, and hugs me tighter, “I hope the Moon Goddess picked someone to balance her, to make her have fun, and not be so serious all the time.”
“Whoever the Goddess chooses for Gabs will be amazing. I know she wouldn’t curse Gabby with anyone less than amazing, especially after Katie.”
“I thought we agreed to never bring that name up again.”
“We did my love, but I just wanted to remind you that the Moon Goddess has a plan for us all.”
“I wonder what her plans are for our daughter?”
I have wondered that since the day she was born. The night of her birth, the Moon Goddess, Selene, came to me in a dream and told me that Gabby would be special but would only reveal her gifts when needed and would need to protect her secret at all costs. A few weeks after Rob’s death, Gabby told me that she was having the same dream every night, she was speaking to someone, but she could never remember who she was speaking to, or what they were discussing in her dream. I had noticed my daughter running as fast as a grown wolf when she thought she was by herself, but when Gabby was thirteen, I overheard her speak to her wolf, and use the name Penny. It was then I realized what Selene was really talking about. My daughter was a gifted wolf.
