“How could the death of someone you had never met affect you so?” -Robert Galbraith *Gabriella* Penny and I follow Selene deeper into the valley, even at night with our vision. It’s absolutely stunning out here with the lush vegetation and streams. Penny nudges me, “Its so peaceful out here.” I nod, as we continue our walk. “Let’s stop here.” Selene gestures to a large boulder for me to sit, right at the water’s edge, and motions for Penny to sit next to me. Selene walks directly into the moonlight, and for the first time, I really noticed her appearance, her blue eyes, long white and rose gold hair, flawless skin, she was breathtaking. “Selene, why did you bring us out here?” Penny asks. “Penny!” I say exasperated, and shot her a glare. “Haha, it’s alright Gabriella. I know you both have many questions for me. Before I continue, Sarah, you can come out.” I stood looking for my beta, and see her approach from the south. “Did you follow me, Sarah?” She bows to Selene, and then bows her head to me as she answers, “Yes Alpha. It’s my duty to protect you at all costs.” “I did not request your presence or your protection. Penny and I can take care of ourselves.” I turned my back to her, as I heard her come closer. “Gabriella, please don’t be so hard on your beta. She is just following my instructions. Sarah, please join us.” Selene notions for Sarah to come forward and sit beside us. “What do you mean she’s following your instructions?” Penny asks. “I will get to that. Now, did your parents ever tell you about the gifted wolf?” Sarah and I both nod. “Of course, they shared the story with us when we were pups. Our fathers would tell us the story during pack get togethers. The first gifted wolf was Lycaon, from Greece. That he was so special because he was gifted not only by you, my goddess, but also your sister, Hecate in order to bring peace amongst the supernatural world.” I say, as I look to Penny. “Selene, why is it that Penny is here with us, but not Cricket?” Before Sarah can speak, Selene snaps her fingers, and Cricket is beside Sarah. “My Goddess, it’s good to see you again. Hello Alpha.” Cricket says as she lays at Sarah’s feet. Selene smiles, and I nod at Cricket curiously, “You’ve met before?” “Yes Alpha, a few times.” Cricket answers honestly. Selene steps forward, and sits besides our wolves. Sarah and I moved to join them. “Yes, Gabriella you are correct. My sister Hecate and I came together long ago to save our people from a dark witch, Tori Blackweather, who sought to destroy the supernatural world and enslave the human race. Lycaon was chosen, the second son of the Alpha of Greece. I blessed Lycaon with speed, unmatched strength, and the ability to sense one’s gifts. Hecate blessed Lycaon with the gift of premonitions of the future, and telekinesis. Because of these gifts, he and his pack were able to stop Tori, and banish her to the depths of hell.” Selene smiles at me, raising her eyebrow, “Gabby, I know you. You’re wondering why I’m telling you this story, aren’t you?” “No not at all.” As I shift uncomfortably on the floor. Sarah and Selene both laugh, “Gabriella, do you know who Lycaon’s mate was?” I shake my head no. “It was me.” *Sarah* Well, that was a mic drop. I look over at Gabriella, who looks equally as shocked. I whispered to Cricket, “I wasn’t expecting that.” “I don’t understand, why are you sharing your secret?” Gabriella asked, clearly as confused as I am. “Because you are my descendant. You are the product of Lycaon and my love.” Selene says with a smile. “I know you noticed your wolf’s fur, and my hair mirror one another.” Gabriella nods her head. “Alpha, I know you’re confused. When Selene first came to me to explain what is to happen, I was confused as well. But for a long time, I’ve helped conceal your secret about your powers. I am your protector, picked by Selene to ensure your safety. I am gifted as well. I can sense dangers around us, and if you are in peril. I will help you with your powers.” “How is this possible? What about my parents? Are they gifted too? Was Rob?” I can tell Gabriella is beginning to spiral. Before I can respond Selene leans across, and grabs Gabriella’s hand comforting her. “Yes, your father is also gifted, as was your brother. Gabriella, didn’t you ever wonder why you were always the fastest wolf around? You hid your strength from your pack and your parents. Or your new gift of telekinesis? ” I could sense Gabriella beginning to get frustrated, “Yes, Selene, I always wondered, but I didn’t think anything of it. Just like I don’t think anything of the dreams I had, half of the time they never came true. Is the reason Rob died due to the fact he was also gifted?” “Yes my child, but he was not the only one who lost his life,” Selene responded. Before Gabby or I could ask about the other person who died, Selene waives her arm and we see the scene before us like a hologram. Matt and Gabby are walking hand in hand on Main Street in downtown Ventura, passing our favorite club, Bombay’s, as Matt takes Gabby to get her nails done. Then the scene changes. Matt is inside a bar named the Sewer, drinking, waiting for Gabby to be done, when he is approached by a handsome wolf saying, “MATE” “What’s your name man?” “Chris” “Chris, I think you smell my friend. Let’s have a drink and I’ll help you find her. My name is Matt.” “Thanks Matt.” “What pack are you from?” “Whitefang, what about you Matt.” “I’m from the Costa Moon pack. Where is Whitefang, I’m not sure that I’ve heard of the pack before” “Oh we’re a small pack outside of Laughlin, Nevada.” We watch in horror as Matt spikes Chris’ drink, and walk out a few minutes later to Matt stabbing Chris in the neck with a blade. “Nothing personal Chris, but your mate is mine. See what you don’t understand is that Gabriella is special. Oh, did I forget to mention her name. Yes, your mate is a descendant from the Goddess herself. And I will make her mine.” Gabby reaches over and grabs my hand, tears pouring down her face. My mouth is hanging open, while our wolves whine. “What the f**k? What is happening? Matt is human, I was with him for two years, how did I not know?” Gabby cried louder. Penny moves closer to comfort her other half. Selene stands, “Gabriella, trust your protector, and your wolf. Something is coming, and you must be ready.” Gabriella and I are left alone. I link my wolf, “Cricket? Where are you?” “I’m with you silly human. Let’s take our best friend back to the hotel, she needs to rest.” I know she’s right, but I also know my best friend. “Gabriella, do you want to go back to the cottage? I’m sure your parents are going to have questions.” Gabriella shook her head, “No, not yet, I need to be alone right now. I need to process everything that’s happened.” “I understand, I can give you space, but you need to be careful. Matt obviously isn’t who we thought he was, he ..” Before I can finish my sentence, Gabby cuts me off, and starts walking away from me. “You think I don’t know that? I was tricked. I am an ALPHA. I am supposed to be taking over and running a pack. How can I be so foolish? How could I have lost my mate? Leave me alone Sarah, that’s an order.” Before I have the chance to apologize, Gabby shifts and runs away from me. “Well, that didn’t go well.” Cricket links, as I shake my head in agreement, no it didn’t. *Gabriella* What are we going to do? Matt is a wolf? “Yeah, a wolf from Costa Moon. The pack who killed our brother.” Penny links furiously. We stop at the top of the waterfall, sensing someone following us. Ugh it must be Sarah. “Sarah, I want to be alone.” I yelled. “I’m not Sarah.” A deep male voice answered back. “Penny, be ready to shift.” I link my wolf, as I tapped into her vision. “Matt is that you?” “No, my name isn’t Matt. Are you expecting him?” The stranger responds, as he walks out, shirtless, his body glistening in the moonlight. “Mm damn, look at him” Penny links, as she begins to pace in my mind. “Penny, what is your deal?” “I don’t know Gabs, I feel like we know him. He’s a wolf, an Alpha, like us.” I closed the link with my wolf. The man walks closer, “What is your name?” I feel compelled to answer, but I need to make sure this isn’t a trick. As he approaches me, and grabs my hand. I feel sparks shoot up my arms, as I gasp. This isn’t possible. “Who are you?” I asked the stranger. “Baby, you know damn straight who I am.” He whispers in my ear. “My name is Kane.” ******* **** Author's Note******* Sorry for the delay, COVID finally caught up with my husband and I.
