So what have you been up to?" I inquire cutting into my apple pie made by Sandra settling into the living room couch.
"Nothing much." Elyssa waves her fork around "How are you doing?"
"I'm good." I give her a small smile
"Well, your eye bags don't say the same," She points out cutting her pie
"It's nothing, I'll just sleep it off." I shrug
"Vinnie you need a break from the mafia."
"I do not,"
"But you're tired and you're becoming too into it. It's wearing you out." She says quietly
I drop my fork onto my plate with a clang standing up "I'm doing this for my husband and you're telling me to take a break?!" I yell
"Vinnie, I didn't mean it like that, you know that," she stands up and I turn my back to her not saying a word
"I'll go now anyways," she picks up her bag and leaves
...
"Thanks for taking care of him." I smile at Martin collecting Carlos from him
"It's no problem." He shrugs walking in and I lay a sleeping Carlos on his bed before walking out to join Martin.
"Care for some Tequila?" I head for the bar at the side of the room
"Nah, I'll have Whiskey," he replies and I pour a glass for him handing it over to him, we both sit on the bar stools.
I finish my glass quickly and I refill it again.
"So you killed one of Salvador's men," Martin says
"Yeah." I shrug
"He's pissed, I like it, but you have to be careful."
"I will, I always am."
"If you say so."
"What about the ammunition?" I change the topic
"It should be here in about two days, then we can test try it."
"Good." I sip my drink
"What about the Wilsons, has he accepted your proposal?"
"Not yet." I shake my head
"And the Walkers?"
"Farrow is working on it, he should have left by now for London to check on the goods and to see what's taking so long."
He nods his head in approval "How about Mr. Valdez?"
"That reminds me, we have a meeting with him tomorrow. We need someone over in Russia, we need a stronger hold on that place."
"I have a meeting tomorrow afternoon but I should be able to get out of it within fifteen minutes, I'll think about who we can send over there." He informs me
"Okay," I finish my third glass and I'm about to pour the fourth one when Martin's hand stops me
"Don't." He says his blue eyes turning dark
"Why?" I inquire confused
"You're gonna be hangover," He says and I roll my eyes
"I have a high alcohol tolerance level and I barely get hangovers, nothing a little Aspirin can't deal with."
"Still, you've taken three full glasses consecutively it's bad for your health," He explains and I roll my eyes
"How many bottles did you take this week?"
"Four," I reply sheepishly
"And it's just Wednesday!" He screeches
"Chill out," I roll my eyes "It's just alcohol, I'm old enough you know,"
"Too much of it isn't good, are you thinking again?" He inquires "Is that why you're drinking?"
"No," I shake my head
When Antonio died, I went into depression, I drank a few times but Martin quickly put a stop to it after all I was pregnant.
"Better." He replies and after a little while of business talk he heads out, Elyssa texts me saying she's sorry and I brush it off.
...
"Good news." Martin smiles walking into my office
"Tell me." I flip through pages of files
"Mr. Wilson has accepted our proposal." He beams
"That's great news!" I smile standing from my seat
"This will make us stronger." I tell him
"Indeed."
"Just a few more partnerships and we can destroy Salvador and Solano." I smile
"Who killed my husband?!" I ask Mr. Farrow
"Well, there are only two enemies who really despised him..."
"What are their names?" I say through gritted teeth
"Salvador and Solano." He adjusts his suit
"Bloody bastards." I curse
"Easy there," Martin laughs and I roll my eyes
"When am I meeting him?" I inquire
"I don't know but he's gonna send someone,"
"Good, I'll see you later." I state
"Bye." He walks out of the office and I relax in my chair happy for the first time in a while.
After attempting to persuade my mom about coming to Mexico, I head home and Carlos is already asleep. Sandra makes me something to eat which I enjoy happily.
Awoken by the sound of my phone I scurry to my feet upon seeing a message from Martin.
Martin
Here's the address, he would like the meeting to be at his house. You have to be there 1pm sharp.
Me
Done. I'll be there.
Looking for something professional yet stylish Carlos walks in and I give him a hug.
"Dormiste bien bebe?" (Did you sleep well baby?)
"Si," he smiles
"Let's go eat." I smile at him and he claps his hands
"Food!" he jumps up and I laugh leading him to the dining room downstairs.
"Martin are you sure they live around here?" I inquire pressing the phone to my ear
"Yes." He replies confused "Why?"
"Well, it looks just like the woods, No buildings for the past ten minutes."
"It must be there." He emphasizes and I motion to the driver to keep on driving
"I mean he couldn't have given us the wrong address could he?" Martin adds and I gasp
"What's wrong?" he asks and I stare at the gate which leads into the beautiful mansion.
"Nothing, I'll talk to you later." I say quickly and the gate automatically opens.
This mansion is huge with its own gate and hidden from the view of others. I live in Chestnut hill which is one of the most expensive areas in Philadelphia but it seems even Gladwyne is more posh and expensive. The beauty and view is simply amazing.
"Just stop right in front of the house." I tell Jerry
"Where do I park ma'am?" He inquires
"I'll call you when I'm ready, you can leave." I tell him gathering my files
"Okay ma'am."
"And be careful. Don't go to the house yet, just go somewhere else and not the office, I don't want to be tracked." I open the door to the car getting out and I catch Jerry's words
"Yes ma'am."
I am walked inside by a maid and the house seems pretty cozy for a big mafia man. I was expecting some glasshouse, not some family country home. I shrug, people have different tastes.
I am walked into a room I assume is meant for business meetings and I take in the view through the window.
I'm still confused as to why I was asked to come to the house and not the office but who knows. These people seem really weird for a mafia. I hope I am in the right place. Adjusting my skirt to look professional, I dust off any imperfection sitting with my legs crossed at the ankle.
The door bursts open and my eyes land on a young man instead of Mr. Wilson maybe he's just the assistant. The assistant's outfit way too casual for a business meeting, a pair of joggers, and a red T-shirt.
"Let's get to business," He smiles and I attempt to hide my shock
