Princes of the Universe

Third POV Albinus Mortimer walked through the bowels of the abandoned sapphire mine at Gem Mountain. He, personally, had come to deal with the fall out from Lionel's and Robert's exploits. As a master vampire lord and a member of the vampire elder council, he had an obligation to take responsibility for the actions of his creations. He looked at the pile of ashes that had once been Robert.  "Well, son. I think you can still hear me. I am grateful that you did take care of Lionel, but you were far too merciful. But you, you were supposed to be smarter than this, son. I guess that you were all hype. You were just the luckiest human in your day," said Mortimer.  Mortimer turned to leave the mine. As he did so, there was a cloud of black smoke that gathered in the tunnel entrance. Mortimer stopped and waited for the entity to become corporeal. The smoke swirled in a counterclockwise direction and tilted on its axis to form a portal that opened, and through which a woman stepped through. She was pale, black hair, black eyes, blood-red lips, she had a shinny silver collar around her neck, she was wearing a leather studded bodice, studded leather mini skirt, but her lower half, that was visible below the edge of the skirt was scaly like a reptile and terminated in cloven hooves. She also had a whip-like tail with a barbed end. "Good evening, Rochelle. To what do I owe this pleasurable and unexpected visitation from the Abyss?" asked Mortimer as he gave her a shallow bow. "Albinus, Mortimer, you are as charming as you were when you were turned all those centuries ago," she smiled and licked her lips as her hungry eye looked him over. Her tail whipping through the air making very loud 'cracking' sounds.  She approached and rubbed up against him. He was not amused, he gently pushed her off of him and stepped back. "I am in no mood for your games, succubus, why are you here?" he said in a cold, yet calm tone. "Well, a little imp told me that your prize pupils have met their ends at the hands of a wood elf..." she said but was interrupted. "Do you have a purpose, or are you here to rub salt in the wound?" he asked a little annoyed. "How would you like to know the name and current location of the parties responsible?" she asked flashing a wicked grin at him. "What do you want for this information, and how do you know that any of it is credible?" Mortimer asked not trying to hide his boredom. "Well, that's where things get a little complicated. You see, my master would like an audience with you, and some other important alpha leaders from the so labeled 'monster' races. Apparently an All-Mother Heiress has been awakened. My master wishes  to meet and discuss how this will effect our respective realms," she said watching Mortimer's face for a reaction. "An All-Mother Heiress? It hasn't even been 25 years since the last one was dispatched. It's not going to change anything. At the most she might bare another heir, but more than likely she will be rubbed out like the last one and things will be business as usual, and the shell game continues," Mortimer said not even trying to hide his annoyance. "Ah, but what if I were to tell you that the Elves and the Fae have already formed new alliances, and are moving on your people because of your creations' exploits?" she said with a haughty look on her face. "What?" said Mortimer. "I didn't stutter, now did I?!" she replied and snapped her tail. "How would you even know that? And how is that anything even new? There is no love lost between vampires and the elves. They kill us on sight, no questions asked," Mortimer said flatly. "That may be true of elves, those xenophobic elitists. But when was the last time a gnome, a fairy, or a nymph attacked a vampire unprovoked?" Rochelle hissed. "Um, Rochelle, darling, this here, wasn't unprovoked. Smell the air, sweetness. My creation had several humans here, and they must have been important to the wood elf that dispatched and burnt my creation. He got careless and he got caught. No skin off my nose. I will simply make more to replenish my numbers," said Mortimer.  "Oh, really, no skin off your nose, huh? Well, my master was only going to appoint you as the new vampire king when the war was over, but I suppose you'd rather continue as a lowly vampire lord, and continue to be cowed by humans and elves then. I will be sure to tell my master you were a 'hard pass' then on my master's  generosity," she said in a nonchalant tone. And she started to disappear into the black smoke from whence she came. "Think it over, and in case you change your mind, you know how to summon me, the offer expires in one year," she smiled. "One year? Why so long?" asked Mortimer. "My master is raising an army. My master needs time to get the legions of the Abyss replenished. My master wants you to get in on the ground level, but knows what it takes to create and train a formidable force. So you have time to recruit and train. If you accept, you must have at least a legion of soldiers to commit. Whether you accept or not, your presence is requested for the summit meeting with the other races in three months," she said. "In three months? Why so long?" Mortimer asked. "My master has me locating and finding everyone to be invited personally. Some have been very hard to pin down, present company included. I am not even through the top five invitees," Rochelle said. Rochelle whispered something unintelligible, waved her hand in the air, a parchment scroll materialized and floated in front of Mortimer. "Mortimer, follow the instructions on the scroll and come to the meeting. My master is making a fair offer, and it is a splendid deal for you. Consider it before you dismiss it completely," Rochelle said. Then as quickly as she materialized, she was gone. Only the faintest trace of sulfur could be detected in the air. Mortimer continued to the surface. As he emerged from the tunnel he looked around. It was still safe for him to be out, no danger of getting caught by the sunrise. However, better safe than sorry, he, a master vampire lord, can teleport a greater distance compared to the average vampire's blink. He focused his mind and envisioned his lair.  There was a slight gust of wind, and he was standing at the entrance to his lair. He was greeted by his guards and attendants. "My Lord, you've returned! I trust you have dispatched those problem children expeditiously, " said an attendant. Mortimer paused and sighed as if to say, "The issue has resolved itself." The attendant took a half step back. "My Lord, are you alright? I smell sulfur... were you accosted by a demon?!" said another attendant . "Enough! Leave me. Wait, summon Brolly, tell him to meet me in my atrium," said Mortimer. The attendants made their exit and bowed acknowledging the order. Mortimer took off his cloak and tossed it on a near by chair. He proceeded to his atrium and took a seat on an antique looking leather fainting couch. There was a knock and a tall thin man with sandy blond hair entered. "You summoned me, my lord?" Brolly asked. "Brolly, come here, my son. Take a seat," said  Mortimer. "What has you so vexed, my lord," said Brolly. "Brolly, I need to talk something out with you. Pretend you do not know me. Clear your mind. If you were to see me for the first time, what would be your initial reaction to me?" Mortimer asked. "Forget everything I know about you, fine, but do you want my opinion as a human seeing you or as a vampire seeing you?" asked Brolly. "Oh, I had not considered that. Let me think a moment. As a vampire, same question," said Mortimer. "My first impression of you was that you are very charismatic. You inspire those around you to follow you without question," said Brolly. "So, in your opinion, is that quality mutually exclusive with leadership?" asked Mortimer. "My lord, I don't understand what you are looking for. Can you explain what has inspired this inquiry?" asked Brolly looking perplexed. "Forgive me. I forget that you can't read my mind, yet that is why I ask for you specifically, so that your responses are organic and not just what you think I want to hear," said Mortimer. He paused and looked up at the moon light coming through the skylights. The silvery shafts playing upon the vegetation in the Atrium. He looked at Brolly and studied his thoughts for a moment then resumed speaking. "Brolly, when I ventured to Montana this evening to deal with Robert and Lionel, not knowing that was a moot point, I was approached by Rochelle. I am not sure who she currently serves, but whomever it is wants to start a war with the Elves and the Fae, and for my participation in this coup, whomever it is thinks that they have enough clout to make me the new vampire king when all is said and done. I cannot deny that the offer is very enticing," said Mortimer. "My lord, not to sound, for lack of a better term, racist, but can you really trust anything an enslaved succubus says? She's a puppet and you don't know who her master is. I would be very cautious with that offer, my lord. How long did it take for you to get a seat on the council of elders? You don't even have to answer me, centuries. It took you centuries to get to where you are. You would risk all you have to overthrow the current council and king for the promise of an unknown entity from the Abyss?! My Lord, I will follow you, no matter what, but think about things carefully before you decide. Don't be blinded by the glitz and glamor of the promised prize. A war with the Elves and the Fae will not be a walk in the park. You will loose vampires loyal to you in this conflict no matter how many legionnaires from hell there are. The Elves and Fae will undoubtedly unite the other pretty races. If we are not careful the werewolves might be swayed to their side, and even worse, what if they get dragons to join them?! What then? Do you want to get into a fight against a force supported by even just one dragon? Again, the choice is yours, my lord. I am your servant and I will follow you wherever you may go," said Brolly with conviction. "Thank you, Brolly. I can always trust you to be honest and straight with me. I will not decide at this time. I will, however, make my decision after I attend the summit meeting in three months," said Mortimer. "What summit meeting?" asked Brolly. "Oh, yes, whomever is holding Rochelle's leash is holding a summit meeting in three months to discuss this coup/war and how to deal with the newly awakened Heiress of the All-Mother," replied Mortimer in a flat tone. "My lord, I know it is above my station, but I would have nothing to do with this conspiracy. The council was against the elimination of the last Heiress. The supernatural world needs an All-Mother to be the peacekeeper. This is madness, you cannot even entertain this, this treason," said Brolly. "I thought you said that you would follow me wherever I may go, not three minutes ago," said Mortimer. "And I meant it. But just because I will follow you, doesn't mean that I agree with what you are doing, or that what you are doing is right. I am your servant, I can only advise you, and follow your commands. I am not at liberty to disobey," said Brolly. "Yet others flout my commands and disobey me," said Mortimer skeptically. "That may be, but where are they now? No longer in your service and dead," said Brolly. "Yes, you do have a point there," said Mortimer as he massaged his forehead. "Thank you  Brolly. Please keep what we have discussed here to yourself, since, as you pointed out so bluntly, it is seditious and treasonous. I have much to consider before I make my decision. You are dismissed," said Mortimer waving off Brolly. "Whatever you need, my lord," said Brolly as he exited the atrium. Mortimer looked at the parchment scroll. He unrolled it.  Just great, it is in an unfamiliar language. That kind of looks like a transmutation circle. This might be directions on opening a portal to the meeting, possibly on another realm's plane.  Oh, I bet that is why Rochelle told me to summon her, she can read this like breathing. She knew I would have to summon her. Well played, succubus, well played indeed.  I just wish I knew who her master is now. That would make all the difference in the world.  No All-Mother Heiress, the right Daemon in control of the Abyss, the right Alpha Werewolf King, the right Orc Chief, and me the Vampire King, that is just so tempting, and it just may work. Mortimer retired to his chambers. He gathered what he needed to summon the succubus. He preformed the ritual and summoned Rochelle to his bed chamber.  "Wow, Albinus Mortimer, I wasn't expecting a summons for at least 48 hours. I owe an imp a very degrading favor! What can I assist you with at this time?" said Rochelle with a mischievous grin. "Rochelle, can you tell me who your master is?" said Mortimer. "Uh-uh-uh! No spoilers. My master doesn't want the past to cloud judgement or influence anyone's decisions. You either accept the invitation and come to the meeting or you decline. You don't get to obsess about history," said Rochelle seductively as she pushed up on Mortimer and began grinding his lap. Mortimer was intrigued. He wanted to see how far Rochelle would go to push her master's agenda and secure his R.S.V.P. to this summit.  So he let her continue. Rochelle peppered his skin with small pecks. She continued to grind against him. "Are you enjoying this, Morty?" said Rochelle. "I've had better, and you've been better," said Mortimer. Lightening flashed in side Rochelle's jet black eyes and she hissed. "Tut-tut-tut, if I wanted an angry p***y cat I would get one, you may go now," said Mortimer dismissively. This only served to agitate Rochelle and redouble her efforts. She claimed Mortimer's mouth with hers and forced her tongue inside his mouth. She began ripping his clothes off and forced him down on to his bed. Mortimer all the while trying to use his psychic abilities to glean what he could from her mind.  Rochelle stopped what she was doing and threw Mortimer against the wall. "Oh you dirty dog! You thought you could mind r**e me while in the throws of passion. Nice try. Don't ever do that to me again. Don't call me again unless it is to have me come open that portal to the meeting for you," she snapped and disappeared from Mortimer's chambers. Mortimer laughed out loud. "Can't blame me for trying," he sighed.
