Jax’s POV I saw Lacey again. She came to the club a few nights later. She smiled when she saw me. I smiled back. We talked. We danced. It became a habit. I told myself it was just fun. Nothing serious. Layla was busy with the bar. I was busy with the club. It was just company. But I knew it was wrong. One night, we were at a different place. A small bar by the lake. Just the two of us. We sat outside. The moon was on the water. It was nice. We drank whiskey. We talked about stupid things. She made me laugh. Then she got quiet. She looked at me. Her eyes were soft. “You’re a good man, Jax,” she said. “I’m not,” I said. “You are.” She leaned closer. “I like you.” My heart beat faster. “Lacey…” She didn’t wait. She kissed me.
