Chapter Three

Survival. This was all that Lionel craved for, desperately. For years has he been at war with the rogues who pilfered his pack and managed to not only murder his parents but destroy half of the pack. He was abroad at the time and had to return home and in that space of five years, he had built the pack to be formidable. “Devin, we’ve been compromised!” Liam breathed heavily into his burner cell-phone right before he crashed his car into a moving truck. What Lionel didn’t expect was to be betrayed by one of his own, a general of his army had ambushed him and he lost many men, he only managed to escape with the help of a strange woman. “Boss, we found her.” Devin reported back to his boss. “Where is she?” Liam asked, a glint lit in his eyes. “La fontaine.” Devin reported. Liam rose to his feet, a ghost of a smile on his face. “Prepare for departure.” For half an hour, he went through her file. Sheila McQueen. He frowned deeply as they arrived at the venue, half a dozen of men alighted and lined up as he also alighted and walked majestically into the venue. He could hear her cry for help and pain, resonating in his mind. At a far corner, she crouched helplessly, scared to death and a man stood over her, ready to pounce on her while everyone else watched but Liam stopped him just in time. Lionel was pissed at whoever stopped him but he paused, the overbearing aura threatening to crush him. They all turned their heads towards the direction the voice came from, wondering who had the guts to stop Lionel. From the darkness, Liam emerged, walking authoritatively, Priscilla looked at him and shut her mouth, afraid of the void in his eyes. He only halted in front of Sheila who was still fazed. “Are you alright?” he asked her, softly. Sheila whimpered quietly, tears rolling down her face as warmth filled her soul. She stared at him, those eyes were familiar and his scent was unmistakably, she managed to nod a ‘yes’. “Can you stand?” Liam asked. Sheila nodded and attempted to stand but her knees betrayed her as they turned jelly and she almost crashed to the ground but Liam was quick to catch her. Without warning; he scooped her in his arms and Sheila let out a soft gasp. As he made to leave, Lionel blocked his path, scowling. “Where do you think you’re going?” Lionel questioned. Liam scowled. “Move.” He ordered. Lionel and everyone else were startled at his confidence, it was an open secret; no one dares to cross Lionel. “What did you just say?” Lionel spat. “Move or I’ll immobilize you.” Liam warned. Lionel scoffed and Carla joined in. “What’s this Sheila? Aren’t you ashamed? Did you hire some hot hobo to defend you, listen; if you kneel down now and apologize then we’ll show some mercy!” Carla bragged. Liam felt Sheila’s fist clench in anger and figured out the situation. “Say one more word and I’ll rip you tongue out of your mouth and feed it to this moron.” Liam swore. “You little-“ Carla’s words trailed off as Liam stared daggers at her, she saw her life flash across her eyes in one moment, her instincts told her not to mess with the man and she cowardly took cover behind Lionel. “What’s this Sheila, it isn’t enough to embarrass us now you’re insulting Lionel?” Priscilla accused. Sheila frowned, hurt by her mother’s response. “Mom! Why do you always imagine the worse of me?” “What’s this nonsense? Apologize to your sister and Lionel right now!” Priscilla demanded. “Why should I apologize? They both betrayed me, why don’t you tell Carla to apologize for being a slut and sleeping with my mates?” Sheila fired. Feeling attacked, Carla reached out and hit Sheila which caught Liam off guard and before she could retract, Liam grabbed her hand and twisted her wrist, dislocating it from its joint. “Lionel!” Carla cried out in pain. “Didn’t I tell you not to touch her?” Liam growled. Lionel stepped forward, ready to retaliate but one of Liam’s men stepped forward and knocked him out with one blow, causing fear to descend on them all. Sheila couldn’t say a word but Liam scoffed. “No one touches my woman unless I say so.” Without saying another word, he turned on his heels and left, carrying Sheila in his arms. “You’re safe now Sheila, you’re safe.” He soothingly sang, relieved she was out of harm’s way. An hour later, Sheila and Liam alighted at his mansion and he carried her like a baby up the stairs to a humongous room. “Put me down.” Sheila requested, shyly. “Can you stand?” Liam asked and she nodded, slightly. He let her down on the bed and ensured she was comfortably seated. He disappeared into the dressing room and came out with a first-aid box. “Lift up your gown a bit.” Liam ordered. Sheila’s eyes widened in shock and she immediately got into a defensive position. “Don’t be silly, there’s a bruise on your knee.” Liam informed her, chuckling softly at her innocence. Sheila did as instructed and he cleaned the bruise, without warning, he scooped her in his arms once more and headed for the bathroom, he let her sit in the Jacuzzi and filled the tub with warm water. “Well, aren’t you going to undress?” Liam asked, teasingly. “What!” Sheila exclaimed. How was she to undress before this familiar stranger. Liam couldn’t help but laugh at her innocence and childish response. “What are you doing?” She asked as Liam began to scrub her feet. “Bathe you, what do you think?” He responded. “Are you going to be here while I bathe?” “Of course, you’re injured.” Sheila stiffened as she felt his hands against her bare skin, he was undressing her and she panicked but didn’t chastise him, it was as if she wanted it to happen. ‘Do something Winter!’ Liam laughed softly and stood straight, he wanted to badly hold her the same way she held him but there was fear in her eyes, if anything, he wanted her to want him, not fear him. “Towels are right there, I’ll be waiting outside.” Liam informed her and immediately left, not wanting to be tempted. Sheila experienced various emotions; relief, joy, surprise, fear, warmth, shock and excitement. The night had turned out the least way she could have ever imagined but one thing was sure; he was the stranger she saved but how he managed to locate her and who he is, was a mystery. She got out of the bath when she began to feel cold and wrapped a towel around her waist. The room was empty when she got there and she went into the dressing room to find a dress but was startled as a manly figure suddenly appeared. She screamed and almost fell but a strong arm grabbed her just in time. Under the dim light, Sheila could see his eyes and got lost in the softness it held. Slowly, his hands slipped past her waist, undoing the loose towel and he pressed her naked frame against his body. “Who are you?” Sheila whispered, electrifying sweet sensations tingling through her. Liam chuckled and leaned in. “I’m the one you seduced.” He whispered, gruffly before crashing his lips on hers and in her head, a forbidden word sounded; ‘Mate!’
