From Jessica's perspective
I screamed, "No!" and held his lifeless body near to me."You can not abandon me, Dad." You are needed, I say."
But I knew that crying would not help. He had passed away. Dead as a stone. Even though I knew this, I continued to call out to him in the hopes that a miracle would bring him back. Come back to me.
My father's blood stained me from neck to ankle.
I looked around and saw my pack members' bodies strewn all over the place. I felt a knot form in my throat at the sight. It was awful.
When I looked up, I saw Alpha Jeff, the monster, moving slowly towards me.
With a menacing grin on his face, he moved in closer, his claws still dripping with blood. He had guided the Crestwolf Pack to our boundaries, invaded our lands, and brutally murdered my family.
I had lost my father, my brothers, and my mother in front of my eyes. My sorrow had no boundaries.
Alpha Jeff had drawn near enough to me by now, his bloodshot eyes piercing to the core of my being.
I could see the full moon dangling like an omen from the sky behind him.
A death omen
I inhaled deeply as he lifted his claws to the sky. I accepted what I knew was going to happen. I expected the blow, He would release me from this life with a deadly cut to my neck. My farpil oncentorg would be with me again.
As I waited, I closed my eyes. I needed him, so I wanted him to do it. Without my family, what possible purpose could life serve? I could sense the gloom all around me, therefore I needed him to murder me. Why had not he murdered me by now?
Then, gradually, I started to hear a well-known voice in the distance.
"Little Red Wolf, wake up!" The voice grew louder and more demanding as it called. Slowly, I opened my eyes to see one of the other slaves. She kicked out at my side, her face contorted into a vile grimace.
Regaining my composure, I saw that all I had been doing was thinking. Not at all, daydreaming. Since then, these dreams have been a regular part of my nights. Considering that my rucksack had burned to the ground.
"Marie has asked that you come. She is in the cooking area. She said as she quickly turned to go.
I got up slowly from my frayed mat and put on my collar fast. As I entered the kitchen, I noticed that there were numerous maids and servant boys working on various tasks. My gaze swept across the space, looking for Marie. As I noticed her, I moved closer.
"Ma'am, you called." As soon as I was in earshot, I said.
"You stupid one, where have you been?" She lost her temper. "I will bet you were dozing off. As the ceremony continues, would you dare to head back to your rooms? For this insolence, I will have you brought before the master."
As I opened my mouth to say something, Marie launched herself forward, snatched the leash from my coltar, and hauled me along.
"You rats, pay attention to me!" She growled in my direction. "I am going to tear your limb the next time you are tardy for work. from limb and feed the wild dogs to you. Got it?Yes, Maat murmured and took up a platter filled with tears.
I wiped the tears from my eyes and headed towards the noisy area while carrying a tray. principal hall. In the Ascension of the Moon Goddess, Alpha Jeff was the host. An alpha in the area held the ritual, which took place every five years. It was a mandatory activity for all alphas in each pack, and it was highly respected."
My lips began to taste unpleasant as I recalled that my father had hosted the previous Ascension. But today, all thanks to Alpha Jeff, nobody knew who I was. As I approached the hallway, the sounds became more intense. I opened the door and took a step inside. There were several people in the room.
There was nobody who was anybody there. I had not attended one of these events in such a long time.
Alpha Jeff abruptly stopped making noise and turned to face his guests.
"Greetings, guests. I am incredibly honoured to be hosting the Ascension this year." He got going. "For millennia-"g
He paused abruptly when a courier hurried onto the stage and said something in his ear. Alpha Jeff gave a nod and glanced around the room.
I looked in his direction. And a new visitor stood at the farthest end of the space."Despite the fact that the new visitor was completely clothed and had his hands covered by black leather gloves, my wolf sense was sharp enough to detect the battle scars that ran up his arms and vanished into his short shirt sleeves. He commanded the entire room's attention with the authority of a powerful alpha wolf, and everyone was staring at him as Alpha Jeff from the stage and moved to the man's position at the end of the space.I observed them grinning broadly as Alpha Jeff greeted him with a tight grasp and a hug. "Welcome, tierd," said Ineard Alpha Jeff, as the guests resumed their conversation and drinking. I stood there, transfixed to the location in the darkness. This belonged to the tall man. I noticed an aura about him that I was unable to interpret.
They had a brief exchange of unclear words before taking their seats. I felt a sudden shove from behind, causing me to falter a little.N Marie was right behind me, practically touching my ear." I fought back the sobs. When people started to realise we were here, there was a quiet stillness. The other feast attendees quickly went blind, turning away from me as though I did not exist.
Maybe I didn't. Right now, I was unable to tell.
There was not much anyone could do to stop this monster, even though some of these guests had been close friends of my father's during his lifetime. Nobody ventured to walk in Alpha Jeff's path. None other than Derek, of course.
It pained me a little bit that Alpha Derek had to see Alpha Jeff shamelessly abuse his partner.
I felt taken advantage of. I felt unclean.
"There are onlookers." With his fangs clenched, Alpha Derek snarled.
Alpha Jeff once more turned to face his companion. "Oh, Derek, hurry up! She is nothing more than a menial maid, and her sole goal in life is to assist me." Alpha Jeff spoke out, his tone laced with arrogance.
I wanted Alpha Jeff to stop, and I wanted Alpha Derek to defend me. It would be an illusion, but I wanted him to be my knight in shining armour, to shield me.
Even as a menial maid, Alpha Derek would never choose to battle with his best buddy, Alpha Jeff, over me.
An inner sigh escaped me.
- After devouring both of my breasts, Alpha Jeff turned to use the water dish on the table to wash his hands. He cleansed his hands as if removing the tith from them bodily.
I felt an overwhelming need to cut his head off there and then, but I knew that would be certain death for me.
I knew from experience that no one was allowed to touch royalty without permission—not even a maid, to be sure. As the daughter of an Alpha, I had seen multiple deaths on this account.
Who would have guessed that I would be standing here today?
After using a towel to wipe his hands, Alpha Jeff flung the towel at my face. "Go!" He lost his temper. "You have a dirty odour.""I was quite appreciative of that dismissal. Give it another second, and he would have witnessed my tears. I was the target of his obscene looks until I walked out of the corridor.
I rapidly served the other guest until the platter was empty, but I could still feel his eyes watching me as I ran into the main hall. I scurried back to the kitchen to hide while I waited for the celebration to end.
I could cry all I wanted to this time.
