Nirvana's POV I stood frozen in the doorway, my eyes darting between my friend and the empty hallway my brother had just disappeared down. I shook the confusion from my head and stepped fully into the dining room. The smell of alcohol hung in the air. I looked at the half-empty bottle of whiskey on the table and then down at Leo. He was completely knocked out. An ache hit my chest. He had been so active and talkative before I left to buy the paint. He smiled and laughed at my jokes. I realized right then that he had been faking it. And I fell for it. He put on a brave face just for me, hiding how much the rejection was still tearing him apart inside. The second I left him alone in the house, he reached for the closest thing he could find to numb the pain. I walked over to his chair.
