Adrian's POV
I turned my back to her immediately and walked straight to the glass window on the far side of my office.
I rubbed my hands roughly over my face and raked my fingers through my hair. The glass had blocked out the noise from the lower levels but I could still feel the bass of the music vibrating through the floorboards.
My office overlooked the main outdoor compound of the clubhouse. I stared down at the scene playing out below me. Several of my club brothers were standing around a metal fire pit.
The bright orange flames leaped into the night air, illuminating their laughing faces and casting long, dancing shadows against the walls.
They were drinking from bottles of amber liquor, partying wildly into the night with eager women held in their arms.
I watched Jax pull a brunette onto his lap, his hands roaming freely while she threw her head back and laughed loudly.
That was my life down there. That was the gritty and loud world I had built from the ground up. That was the reality I fought and bled for every single day. To maintain it. Women like Daniella were always available in this world.
They lingered around the clubhouse, always willing to do whatever I asked, whenever I asked for it.
It was a simple, uncomplicated transaction of pleasure and temporary distraction. It was a lifestyle that never required me to feel anything beyond the moment.
I stared down at the bikers below and could not understand why I suddenly felt uninterested in all of it. It felt incomplete. The loud laughter and drinking just looked exhausting to me now. Like a bigger part of it was missing.
A hollow emptiness settled right in my chest, heavy and cold. I felt disconnected from the only place I ever truly belonged. I felt like a stranger standing in my own territory. It was very strange.
I heard the soft rustle of clothes moving behind me but I didn't turn to her. I had almost forgotten she was still in the room.
Danielle seemed to be over the shock of my sudden withdrawal at the desk. She set her bare feet down on the floor and walked closer to me.
I heard her light footsteps stop right behind my right shoulder. The cloying scent of her floral perfume washed over me again, making the muscles in my jaw tighten.
"You look stressed," she said quietly. "Is anything the problem?"
I kept my eyes focused outside. I did not want to look at her. I slowly shook my head side to side. "No," I answered her. My voice sounded flat and uninterested. "You can leave now."
But she didn't. Instead, she stepped directly in front of me. I turned to look at her as she sashayed right into my line of sight, purposefully swaying her hips. To grab my attention maybe.
I continued to stare at her.
She grabbed the front of her gown with both hands and suddenly tore it off her body. The cloth made a ripping sound and I raised my brow.
I couldn't deny being a bit amused. She was standing in front of me totally naked, her ruined cloth now on the floor, pooled around her ankles.
I watched her with a blank expression. I was surprised by her bold persistence. Most women would have taken the hint and walked out the door.
But I felt no reaction to her naked body despite standing under the lights. My blood remained cool. My heart rate did not increase. I felt nothing but a dull, rising annoyance.
Daniella did not wait for me to speak or react. She dropped slowly down onto her knees right in front of me. She looked up at my face and parted her lips, tracing her bottom lip with her tongue.
"Will you take my mouth or f**k my breast, Adrian?" she asked in that breathless tone of hers that now sounded fake to my ears.
She was playing a script she had used a hundred times before. She thought acting dirty and submissive would snap my attention back to her body. She thought it would fix whatever was broken inside my head.
"f**k," I exclaimed loudly.
I ran my hand roughly over my face, pressing the heels of my palms into my eyes.
The curse was directed at myself. A willing woman on her knees was supposed to be the ultimate release for a man in my position. It was supposed to be the easiest way to clear my mind.
Now, looking at Daniella, it just irritated me. It felt cheap and forced. She was not the defiant woman I wanted on her knees. The only woman I wanted was currently inside her bedroom and out of my reach.
Daniella misunderstood my curse though. She took it as a sign of deep arousal, believing she had finally broken through my walls. She smiled and leaned forward, reaching her hands out to grip me again.
My patience vanished instantly.
"Stop it," I snapped. My voice was louder than I intended and a bit harsh. But I didn't have the patience to feel guilty. My annoyance was boiling over into anger.
I stepped back before her hands could make contact with me. I refused to let her touch me again.
Daniella froze with her hands suspended in the empty air. The sultriness vanished from her features, replaced by evident shock and embarrassment. Her wide eyes stared up at me, finally realizing that my rejection was absolute.
"Leave, Danielle," I ordered. I wanted her out of my space as fast as possible.
I did not wait for her to gather her torn clothes or stand up from the floor. I turned around and walked out into the hallway, slamming the door shut behind me. The loud bang finalized the rejection.
I walked down the stairs leading to the main floor. The loud rock music blasted through the large corner speakers, vibrating against the walls. The smell of cigarette smoke, engine oil, and achohol hit my face immediately.
I walked past the pool tables, ignoring the loud bikers and the women hanging onto their arms. I went straight to the bar at the back of the room.
Wayne was wiping down the counter. He took one look at my dark expression and reached under the bar without asking a single question.
He poured a generous amount of vodka into a glass and slid it across the slab. I swallowed the alcohol in one gulp.
The liquid burned a fiery path all the way down my throat, but it did nothing to dull the ache in my chest. The burn was nothing compared to the frustration tearing my mind apart.
I set the empty glass down hard on the counter. I didn't want a willing woman on her knees. I wanted the student who defied me in my own classroom. I wanted the girl who stood toe to toe with me and fought back with a fire that made my blood boil.
Nirvana had ruined my desire for anyone else. And she did it without even trying. She owned my thoughts. She owned my restraint.
And the terrifying truth was, I had no idea how to protect her from my violent life when all I wanted was to pull her down into the darkness with me. I fisted my fist until my knuckles turned white.
If I could not control myself around her in a public classroom, what the hell was I going to do the next time we were actually alone in the dark?
