RICH KING'S LIFE OUTSIDE BUSINESS

Natasha’s POV “I would not want to say that it was all toxic Fina, since I intend going back there tomorrow, and next, and maybe upper, you know just keep going there.” I said. I walked up to the shelf to pick up a novel to keep myself busy with. After browsing for a while, I settled for Wandering Heights by Emily Bronte. This wouldn’t be the first time I would be reading it, but I just felt like it tonight. Fina was seated on the sofa, and was operating her phone. She waited for me to sit down before saying without looking up to me. “I understand you were tensed Tasha”. She said. “And you ended up making a complete fool of yourself baby girl. We all have been seeing Rich King, we see him everywhere…” she continued but I cut her short. “Not in person Fina, you see him but not in person”. I said. “So?” she asked looking up at me. “Wait till you see him yourself, only then will you understand my plight”. I responded. “I still don’t buy that dear, I did everything this morning to put you through. What’s there in meeting ones new boss”. She said. She stood up and went to the Fridge, she opened it and took out a bottle of yoghurt. “You have met people Tasha, in all shapes and form. Come on girlie, you walked as a Public Relation Officer in a government parastatals at New Zealand, so what’s the big deal in meeting someone?” She opened the drink and sipped from it. She came back to her seat holding the yoghurt and continued with her phone. “He is hot darling, I can never overestimate that”. I said almost daydreaming. I wished there was a way I could tell her exactly how Rich King is. Words fail me at this time, cause no amount of it would be able to describe him. Even the thought of him gives me butterflies. I looked up to notice Fina staring at me. I noticed that I have been blushing and I quickly adjusted myself. I opened a page in the book that I had brought out to read, and started reading from the page. “I wish I know exactly what you had seen Tasha, maybe then would I understand you better. But sincerely, I doubt if I would have reacted same way as you did”. She said. I didn’t respond to her, but continued with my book. I for one is definitely not proud of how I had acted before Rich King, but I could swear it was not my fault, any other person would have reacted same way, that I am sure of. Actually, was only staring at the book in front of me, because my entire thought was on Rich King. There are so many things that I would like to know about him, something that does not have to do with business, as in, his personal life. I didn’t get to see much of him at the office today. After he returned from his meeting, he spent most of the day going through some documents in his office and most of the time he was on call. And when it was 4:00pm he informed me that he was going for a meeting with some clients and wouldn’t return to the office. “Wouldn’t you be going out to meetings with him?” Fina asked. “You said what, what meeting?”. I asked in confusion. “You are his secretary Tasha, you should be going to his meetings with him”. She said. “Yes, of course I would. He said I should take some time to understand the company better”. I responded. “I thought as much”. She said. “I have been wondering Fina, about Richard King. What does he do outside work, how is his private life?”. I asked. “Because sincerely, I doubt if he has any”. I added. “You are right dear, he does have a little social life, but ironically, that also has to do with business”. She said. The realization that he do have a social life got me captivated and the fact that it still has to do with business doesn’t change anything. Never would I have imagined the famous Richard King take some time off his financial world to relax even if same was to talk about business. “Tell me about it Fina”. I said in excitement and dropped the book that I was holding on the floor. “Hmn..” she said with her finger on her chin. “So where do I start from?”. She contemplated on how to begin. “Everything sweetie, just tell me everything”. I persuaded. “Rich King as we already know is one of the most influential business men in California, his business chain is not just in the U.S, but spreads across Europe. And of course he parties. On special invites, he attends the crème de la crème events just so as to discuss business”. She paused and smiled. “Imagine that, going for important occasions just so as to talk money, when even me would gladly give up all that I have to be to such event”. I sighed. “That would not be a surprise to me, with the man that I saw today, nothing about him can surprise me”. I added. “No need budgeting all your life savings to attend any of such now, because very soon you too will tag along whenever he is specially invited to the gathering of the high and mighty”. She said. These words coming from Fina sent me down to dream land. I began to imagine what life would be like having to attend such event and mingling to rich folks. Of course I know I wouldn’t mingle with them but seeing them and been involved in their ways of life is something I would live to cherish. I thought about been in their midst. What would they be doing, what am I supposed to do when they go about interacting amongst themselves? Of course I would blend in without stress. I remember growing up and having to visit my rich cousins in Paris, apart from not knowing the names of their foods and how it was meant to be served, I never had any problems fitting in. “Of course I would tag along”. I said rather absentmindedly. “It is rumored that he spends good money on his dates. And when I say good money, I mean real money. But his dates don’t last long, maybe a month or so, but at most five weeks”. “And why is that so?”. I asked in shock. “Do they leave him, isn’t he good enough, or is he some player”. I stopped at the sound of player. Even though I may not want to admit it, there is great likelihood that such a handsome and charming bachelor should be a player. “No he is not”. She said. I don’t know why, but a felt an instant relief hearing Fina that Richard King was not a player. I inhaled deeply, and eager to know more, I asked. “So why the short dates?”. “He is engaged Tasha”. She responded. I was almost had a heart attack. Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought that he was engaged. I started to breath fast, but managed to control it before Fina would know. “Engaged, but I never heard of such. He was featured as California’s most chased after young handsome billionaire bachelor in Forbes Magazine just last month?”. I asked. “The engagement is an open secret Tasha, you have to be an insider to know about it. It’s not been made public yet”. She said. I tried to assimilate all that I have just heard. He was engaged, then to who. I tried to recall all the possible rich spinsters that matters in California, to know who might be the supposed bride. But suddenly discovering how foolish my attempt was, I laughed briefly. “Then how does she take it, I mean the infidelity?”. I asked. “Dignity”. She responded. “Dignity?”. I asked. She was beginning to get me even more confused. “Yes her dignity. She knows they were not there to stay. As long as they come and go without seeking for more, she is comfortable”. She replied. Hmn, this whole thing is just getting interesting. What sort of woman wouldn’t mind sharing her man. Definitely my kind of woman. “Moreover, it is also rumored that the engagement is just business. It’s devoid of emotions, just business”. She added. “But I must add a warning to this Tasha”. She said. I looked at her with eyes wide open, wondering what she was going to warn me about. “Pray you don’t ever got to cross her path dear, I swear you will dread her presence if you ever do”. She warned.
