“This was a mistake.” Katerina’s words echoed in my head like a death knell as I flew away from the woman I loved.
She’d touched her stomach as she’d said it, and the message was loud and clear. Our baby wasn’t wanted. I wasn’t wanted. Everything we’d been building together these past few months was a lie. She didn’t even think enough of me to invite me to that medical appointment that is one of the highlights of a pregnancy.
My anger was divided. Yes, I was mad at her for keeping so much from me. For not giving our relationship the chance it deserved. However, I also knew I could have done so much more to make her feel safe and comfortable. She didn’t open up to me for a reason, and it was because I’d let her down and not opened up to her.
