Estella’s POV
That evening, when Dane didn’t show up for our lesson, I knew something was wrong. He had been absent from a lot of his classes lately, which was quite unusual for him. I checked the usual places: the training fields, the library, even his office, but I didn’t find him anywhere. So again, I asked about him at the University office, and they only repeated the same clipped answer they always gave:
“He is away on business.”
Their eyes lingered on me longer this time, so I decided to stop pestering them with questions about him. I didn’t want their suspicions about our relationship to grow into something more and cause trouble for Dane.
I hurried out into the cool night, only to bump into someone a moment later.
“You younglings are always in such a hurry,” a familiar voice
