Estella’s POV We knew it was going to happen, but I was almost too late. Cali’s frightened scent hit me before I even saw her. The small crowd that had formed in the courtyard saved me the time of looking for her. That was the Tribunal’s favorite tactic after all—back someone into a corner and intimidate them with sheer numbers. Well, not on my watch. I shoved through the crowd, ignoring their grunts, curses, and shiny badges until I reached the middle, where Cali stood facing Lionel, who was smirking like a wolf that had just caught a rabbit. When the whispers grew louder, he looked over his shoulder. “Get lost, Vane. This doesn’t concern you,” he sneered as I moved to Cali’s side. I touched her shoulder while she gave me a relieved smile. “Sorry for being late. Are you okay?” I ask
