Emilia adjusted the sleeve of her sweater as she walked through the palace corridor. She had expected the council meeting to feel important, but it had been nothing like the grand ceremony she had imagined. There had been no crown, no announcement, no gathering of the entire pack. Just a room filled with older wolves who had looked at her carefully while discussing her new position as though she were a decision they hadn't quite made up their minds about. She had answered their questions. She had listened. And she had tried not to fidget in the black leggings and oversized cream sweater she had chosen that morning.
