THE BEGINNING.

Fred. He was right behind me, as I stopped and turned. I faced him and I noticed the fear his eyes. His shoulders dropped has his soundless mouth couldn't get closed. I knew he would be terrified but I couldn't control my anger at the moment. I could barely tell who was the enemy as I was overwhelmed in my thoughts. Without thinking twice, I charged at him. I don't know what is going on in your mind right now but I know you wonder what kind of creature I am. We are called Hosts. We are humans just like every other person, but we have natural magical powers. Let's just say It's a family thing. My father always try to make sense of it. He said there are three Hosts. The Golden Hosts, that is our own family. The Grey Hosts and the Dark Hosts. He said the Grey Hosts are somewhere in Africa. They are the deadliest Host Clan, yet they have learnt to hold their peace. They have been able to keep themselves together and safe from external interference. They all live in a great mansion, starting from their great grand parents to their smallest babies. Over eighty powerful Hosts. They do not go around causing chaos unlike the Dark Hosts. The Dark Hosts are not new to us. Led by Draven, the most powerful of the dark beasts. He had killed his own parents and turned the whole of his family and that of his brothers to his own slaves. They work for him, killing people and causing havoc. Each time he killed someone, he got stronger. It is said that the powerful will always thirst for more power and that is why Draven seeks the ultimate power. The kazulli staff. And there we are. The last Clan. The Golden Hosts. We were just three. I, my dad and my sister. We could have been more but the Dark Hosts didn't allow. They ambushed us. I don't like to talk about this because it only makes me hate him more. Not Draven. It makes me hate my father, Hans. He was away on a party when we needed him the most. My mother was the leader of the Hosts but she was nothing without him. I still remember how she kept the both of us deep in the basement. My sister and I couldn't make a sound. We heard the Dark Hosts berge into the house. That was the first time I heard Draven's voice. “Forgive me for not knocking and for the greetings I forgot. Your husband is not around, I presume”. “You will regret the day you stepped into this house Draven” my mother continued “the Golden Hosts will hunt you and…” those were the last words I heard from her before Draven replied “and kill me? Hmhmmnhmmmn, you're so funny. Which Host? All your cousins, nephews, nieces and children are laying lifeless outside. Summon your husband and let's finish this once and for all” I heard a thud on the floor, it must have been my mother falling from the trauma. She must have called father and he didn't answer. He loves to show himself outside his family, even till now. He wasn't useful for anything. She was killed silently. I had no idea she was dead. Until we got out of the basement and found her body. We waited for hours but caught no sight of dad. I buried her with my own hands while Christie didn't stop crying. “Could you wait a little longer? She might wake up” But I knew she was gone. I covered her with the sand and sealed it up. Father showed up after two days. He cried his balls out when he figured what had happened. But that didn't move me, Christie neither. He kept trying to win our hearts to prove his innocence but we knew he abandoned her. If there's any reason we're still living together, it's because I have no choice as a Host. The funniest part was that Christie became the new Golden Host leader. My younger sister. Who was still eight years old at that time. What could she possibly be capable of? We had no choice but to follow the way of the Hosts. But I must say it's a shame on my father that his daughter became his leader. We decided to move to a new location, Phills City, where we stayed schooled. It was an amazing place to be. But I and Christie didn't just grow up there. We made sure to track the traces of the Dark Hosts. We ruined their plans one by one without letting father know about it. I was consumed in rage everytime I spotted a Dark Host. How did we know when we see a dark Host or how did we know when they were about to attack? Dark Hosts have their faces like normal humans but when we see dark Hosts, we see totally black eyes. Only Golden Hosts have such power to know the Dark Hosts. Even the deadliest Host, which is Grey, can not tell the difference between a Dark Host and a normal human, except of course, if there's chaos. I was at home one night when Christie summoned me. She was at a boulevard close to Phills College when she noticed two Hosts were about to attack some young ladies doing night jobs. I was there in a few seconds as I slit their throats with my bare hands even before Christie could touch any of them. I closed my golden eyes and I'm sure they were brown by the time they opened. Christie calmed me down as we vanished back home. I still dream of Draven. I know I will be the end of him someday. Last year, I gained admission into Pills College. It's such a paradise to be. I smiled as I walked down the bright hallway to my classroom. I seemed to have forgotten every pain in me, except the pain that keeps me breathing. The love of my mother. It was as though she was there with me. I entered the classroom and saw the arrangement like an arena stage. It was glorious and I enjoyed every bit of it. I grabbed a donkey seat as other students came in too. They were all looking at me and laughing. I thought I had something on my head or something was wrong with my clothes. Was it my face or leg? I didn't realize what I was getting into until a hefty boy entered that class. Everywhere became quiet as he was frowning. He looked at me and wore a quick short smile. It was his donkey I was sitting on and he was clearly the toughest bully of the class. There was something else I didn't quickly grasp about him as he came closer. That was the first time I met Edwin.
