THE ROYAL ENTRY

The Grand Palace Hotel was a fortress of gold, glass and flashing media cameras. Tonight, the city's multi-billion-dollar elite had gathered under the glittering crystal chandeliers of the main ballroom, completely unaware that a corporate execution was about to take place. The Blackwood Matriarch had called an emergency shareholder meeting, masked as a charity gala, to legally dissolve Ethan's logistics company and permanently seize the Sterling estate. But as the high-society crowd sipped champagne, the heavy oak doors at the back of the ballroom didn't just slide open, they were thrown wide. The chatter in the room instantly died, dozens of media cameras pivoted away from the stage, their flashes blinding the entrance as every head turned to look at the newcomers. If the Blackwood Matriarch thought we were dead beneath the concrete rubble of the garage, she was looking at ghosts. I stepped into the ballroom, my arm locked securely inside Ethan's. The bruised, weeping girl who had discovered her marriage was built on a lie was completely gone. In her place stood the true heiress of the Sterling fortune. I wore an emerald-green silk gown that clung to my curves like a second skin, the fabric slit high up my thigh, exposing my elegant heels. My hair was swept up and my chin was raised with a cold, aristocratic defiance. Beside me, Ethan looked like an absolute king. He wore a flawless, tailored charcoal tuxedo that stretched across his broad, muscular shoulders. A sleek black silk bandage was wrapped tightly over his suit jacket where the bullet had grazed his shoulder, not hidden, but displayed like a badge of war. His jaw was hard, his eyes dark and predatory as he scanned the room, his hand resting possessively over mine on his forearm. We looked like a couple escaping an assassination attempt and more like royalty returning to claim a stolen throne. Oh my god," a reporter whispered from the crowd, her camera clicking frantically. "Is that Laura Sterling? The papers said she was involved in a massive accident this evening!" "Look at Ethan Blackwood," another corporate mogul muttered, backing away as Ethan's lethal, unblinking gaze swept past him. "He looks ready to kill someone." At the front of the stage, standing behind a marble podium surrounded by microphones, the Blackwood Matriarch froze. Her silver hair gleamed under the stage lights, but her aristocratic face went completely pale. Beside her, Thomas Sterling, the man who had bought me fifteen years ago, stumbled backward against a row of corporate banners, his champagne glass slipping from his hand and shattering against the polished floor. "Laura," Thomas choked out, his voice carrying over the silent room. I didn't look at him, my eyes were locked entirely on the Matriarch. I let a slow, dangerous smile curve my lips as Ethan led me down the velvet-carpeted center aisle, the crowd parted for us like the Red Sea. "You look surprised, Mother," Ethan's deep, raspy voice echoed through the ballroom, low but perfectly captured by the Media's directional microphones. "Did you really think a few pounds of cheap explosives could destroy what belongs to me?" "Ethan," the Matriarch recovered quickly, her voice instantly smoothing out into that velvet, poisonous corporate mask as she stepped forward on the stage. "This is a private shareholder meeting for the Blackwood and Sterling conglomerates. You have been stripped of your voting rights due to corporate negligence. Security, move these intruders immediately." Four large men in tailored security suits immediately stepped out from the shadows of the stage, moving toward us with their hands inside their jackets. Before they could take a single step close to me, Ethan let go of my arm. He stepped in front of me, his massive frame completely blocking the guards. He didn't draw a weapon, he didn't have to. He simply adjusted his gold cufflinks, his dark eyes flashed with a possessive, lethal dominance that made all four guards freeze in their tracks. "If any of you touches my wife," Ethan whispered, his voice vibrating with an authoritative growl that sent a chill down my spine, "I'll ensure your families spend the rest of their lives paying for your medical bills. Step back, now." The guards hesitated, looking at each other, completely terrified by the raw, dangerous energy radiating from my husband. They didn't move. I stepped beside Ethan, reaching into my silk evening bag. I pulled out a heavy, metallic silver flash drive, the digital copy of the leather binder Evelyn had handed me in the dark garage. "This isn't an emergency shareholder meeting," I announced, my voice clear, steady and carrying across the entire ballroom as I stepped onto the stage stairs. "This is a crime scene. Fifteen years ago, the woman standing at that podium, the Blackwood Matriarch, ran an illegal black-market adoption ring. She used her corporate power to tear children away from their families and sell them to the highest bidder." The ballroom erupted into a frenzy of gasps and frantic whispers. The reporters surged forward, their cameras flashing like a storm of lightning. "That's not true, she's lying!" Thomas Sterling screamed, his face changed to a furious shade of purple as he pointed a trembling finger at me. "You ungrateful child, we gave you everything!" "You bought me for five million dollars, Thomas," I snapped back, stepping onto the main stage and confronting him face-to-face. "And to keep the secret safe, you and the Matriarch ordered a hit on my biological parents. You burned their home to the ground." "Where's your proof, Laura?" The Matriarch sneered, her eyes narrowing into cold, reptilian slits as she leaned over the podium. "In the high-society world, words mean nothing without documentation. You have nothing but the ramblings of an ungrateful orphan." Suddenly, the heavy velvet curtains at the very back of the stage shifted. Evelyn Sterling stepped out into the bright stage lights. She was no longer wearing her ruined white pantsuit. She wore a simple elegant black dress, her face calm and devoid of fear. Beside her, holding a thick, bound leather file, was Natalie, my biological sister. "She has the proof because I have it to her, Victoria," Evelyn said, her voice amplification system cutting through the Matriarch's microphone. She walked straight toward her husband, Thomas and slapped a printed legal document directly onto his chest. "I've already signed the full confession before the federal magistrates ten minutes ago. The wire transfers, the arson reports, the bribed police records, it's all in that drive." "You miserable b***h," Thomas roared, lunging toward Evelyn with his fist raised in pure panic. He never touched her. Ethan moved like a shadow, he vaulted onto the stage in a single, fluid motion, his large hand wrapping around Thomas's throat before the man could even lower his arm. Ethan lifted the billionaire tycoon completely off the ground by his collar, pinning him violently against the marble wall of the stage. "I told you before, Sterling," Ethan growled into his face, his muscles flexing with a terrifyingly dominant strength as Thomas gasped for air. "The promise is dead. You don't get to lay a hand on anyone ever again. I turned away from the pathetic sight of my adoptive father, walking straight to the marble podium. I slammed the silver flash drive into the media terminal connected to the grand projector screen behind the stage. "Reporters, look at the screen," I ordered, turning back to the crowd with a fierce, triumphant glint in my eyes. "Tonight, the fake empire falls. And the true reckoning begins." The massive projector screen flickered and the first document appeared in giant, glowing letters across the entire ballroom: CONCIERGE ILLEGAL ADOPTION CONTRACT: RECIPIENT-THOMAS STERLING. PROVIDER- VICTORIA BLACKWOOD. The crowd went completely wild, the security guards abandoned their posts and sirens began to blare from the streets outside the hotel. I looked past the flashing lights, my eyes finding Ethan's through the chaos. He let go of Thomas, walking back to my side and wrapping his arm around my waist, pulling me tightly against his chest. We had crashed their board meeting, we had exposed their sins. But as the Matriarch stared at us with a sudden, psychotic smile on her face, I realized the cornered beast was about to take it's final, desperate bite.
