Leigh looked at the mirror, she hardly recognize the person staring back. Her wild red hair had been tamed and pulled in an elegant bun that rested on the left side of her head just behind her ear. Her bun was pinned in place with golden peacock pin. She wore a strapless long dark green dress with gold embroidered across the breast. The green matched her eyes.
"This is ridiculous" Leigh sighed out load as she step in the green dress shoes that matched her dress.
Out of everything she had to wear the shoes were the worst. How could anyone function in them. They were so load and clunky, she would rather wear boots.
"Now the finishing touches" a lady said placing a gold necklace around Leigh's neck.
The woman took a step back admiring her work.
"You are stunning." she concluded hang Leigh a bottle of perfume.
Leigh spritzed the bottle and stepped into the cloud, it smelled like vanilla and sandalwood. She was almost ready to leave for the Mayor's party. She examined herself as picked up her twin daggers. Leigh went nowhere without them, tonight would be no different.
"Let's see, what we can do." the woman helping Leigh said noticing her dilemma.
She took the fabric that should have been Leigh's shaw and folded her daggers into it. She wrapped it around Leigh's waist and pined it with a golden broach. She stepped back and took a look at Leigh.
"No one can tell you have them unless they feel them." she told Leigh satisfied with her work.
"Thank you" Leigh said smiling
"Can you help me with the other parties" Leigh asked the woman
"Absolutely, just ask for Lydia." the woman replied warmly
"It time for to go downstairs." Lydia told her.
Leigh reached her arms out and embraced Lydia thanking her once again.
She made her way down the stairs. She paused at the last flight of stairs. Prince Aeryn and Randir were both staring at her.
"I knew I looked ridiculous" Leigh whispered to herself noticing the three elven woman staring at her as well.
She pushed the thought down as she made her way down the rest of the stairs.
When she reached the bottom Aeryn held out his hand. She took it, afraid she would fall flat on her face. Prince Aeryn lead her to the carriage and helped her in.
Leigh and Aeryn took a sit beside one another with their backs faceing the driver Randir helped the other woman in and took his seat.
The carriage departed and Leigh looked out the window taking in the scenery. Soon the carriage turned on to a road with well keep trees and stopped in front of a mansion made of white stone.
Randir stepped out a helped the woman from the carriage. He reached his hand up when it was Leigh turn. She took it and stepped form the carriage.
"You look beautiful" Randir leaned in and whispered
"Where did you hide you draggers." He asked quietly eyeing her.
"You know me well, Sir." Leigh replied with a mischievous smile.
Aeryn stepped from the carriage and lead the group inside the large white mansion. Once inside they were escorted to a large ballroom.
Leigh figured that there was close to one hundred fifty people included staff in the room. The room still had plenty of room, it was much larger than the ballroom at thier manson.
The Mayor introduced himself anf his wife to Aeryn and the rest of the group. Leigh found herself hyper vigilant with all this people. She wish Aeryn had brough more guards. She looked at Randir who was deep in conversation with a golden haired elven woman.
"Would you like to dance." Aeryn asked her with a smile.
"No, you should dance with one of the ladies you invited" she answered flatly.
"Alright, but I still want one dance with you." He replied a hint of hurt in his eyes.
Leigh didn't did want to dance or be distracted. She also knew Aeryn need to get to know these women. Aeryn one soon have to chose a bride.
Leigh walked around eyeing guest and staff not trusting anyone. She caught sight of Aeryn on the dance floor with a silver haired elf woman. She felt the pangs of jealousy pull at her heart as she watched him graceful move her around the dance floor. Leigh looked away and continued to scam the crowd for threats.
Prince Aeryn and the rest of the group had been her for a hour maybe a little longer, Leigh figured. She had yet to find anyone or anything suspicious. She made her way to the table where the others had gathered between dances. Aeryn and Randir had taken turnd dancing with the woman.
Leigh made her way to the table as she noticed two waiters making their way to the table. That is when she saw it, the flash of a blade.
With a thought she pushed Aeryn out of the way, bring out her own blades.
"Wha.." Aeryn began as he saw the scene before him unfold.
Leigh kicked off her shoes, daggers in hand as she squared up the would be assassin.
The assassin slashed at Leigh as she parried with her left hand takeing a step, slashing with her right. The assassin again slashed at her, and she again perried this time her dagger in her right hand tasting blood. The assassin stepped back trying to gauge his opponent.
Leigh knew this dance well. A smile forming on her lips as circled her pray. The assassin moved in to attack, she side stepped both her blades finding their mark. Again the he moved in to attack, Leighs blades again tasting his blood.
The assassin again stepped back guaginghis would and trying to find his opening. He lunged at Leigh she again parried, but her blade missed it mark this time. The assassin again lunged at her, she side stepped and buried her right dagger in to neck.
The assassin fell to his knees grabbing at the dagger deep in his neck. The light in his eyes dimming as death took him.
Leigh turned around to find Aeryn. When she found him he was circled by gaurd. Her eyes meet his eyes wide with fear. She started towards him, when she felt a sharp burning sensation in her stomach.
Leigh touched where the feeling was coming from and than looked at one of her hand. Her hand was covered in blood, she looked down and saw the assassin's dagger stuck in her stomach.
She looked up to Aeryn again, he was rushing towards her. Leigh tried to take a step towards him as she collapsed to the ground.
