Chapter 6: Spark Between the Lines
Seren Aveline Marquez’s POV
Another day, another attempt to stay invisible.
After what happened in the library, I thought things would go back to normal. That Kael would move on to his usual crowd, ride off into the sunset with his biker g**g, and forget whatever... that was.
But no. The next morning, he was waiting by the gates. Helmet in hand, hair all windswept like he just came out of a drama series.
"You're early," he said.
"I'm always early."
He smirked. "Me too."
"Stalking isn’t a personality trait, you know."
"Neither is pretending not to care."
I blinked. He just knew how to ruin my emotional walls like they were made of glass. It was annoying. And worse… it was starting to be less annoying.

Kael Ronin Navarro’s POV
It wasn’t part of the plan.
Actually, there was no plan. I just saw her walk in every morning, books hugged close to her chest, like armor. She looked like she didn’t need anyone. Like she had her whole world figured out.
But sometimes, even the most perfect people looked tired.
And today? She looked tired-tired.
I wanted to ask. But I didn’t want her to run again. So I walked beside her instead.
Just like that.
She didn’t push me away.
Progress.

Seren’s POV
Why was he everywhere?
In the halls. By the court. Even in my dreams, which is totally unfair because I have zero control over that.
He sat by the bleachers during practice today. Not saying anything. Just... watching. Like he belonged there. Like he wasn’t a distraction with legs and a motorcycle.
And for some reason, I didn’t tell him to leave.
Coach even raised an eyebrow at me when I missed a shot.
"You good, Marquez?"
No. Not even close.

Kael’s POV
There’s something about watching Seren play. Not just because she’s good. She’s fierce. Precision in motion. Her mind working three steps ahead. Like chess. With a racket.
But today, she was off. Her usual grace had a c***k. I noticed. Of course I did.
After practice, she slumped by the lockers. I brought water. Tossed it without a word.
She caught it. No thanks. No comment. Just a small nod.
That was enough.

Later that night…
Seren’s POV
I didn’t want to message him.
So obviously, I did.
Seren (8:47 PM): Did you skip class again today?
Kael (8:49 PM): Did you miss me?
Seren (8:50 PM): I missed not having to dodge your nonsense.
Kael (8:52 PM): Ouch. But hey, at least you’re texting me now.
Seren (8:54 PM): Must’ve hit my head during drills.
Kael (8:55 PM): Or maybe… you’re starting to like me?
Seren (8:56 PM): Delete your account.
Kael (8:57 PM): Too late. I screenshot that smile you’re trying to hide.
Seren (8:59 PM): You’re insufferable.
Kael (9:00 PM): And yet... here we are.
I tossed my phone face down on my bed.
And smiled.
Again.
What is happening to me?
