CROSSROADS AND CONFESSIONS

Chapter 9: Crossroads and Confessions Seren Aveline Marquez's POV School hallways were buzzing with noise and chatter, but all I could hear was the pounding of my heart. It’s not like I’m nervous about presentations or exams, nah. This was something else — something way more confusing. Kael. His name alone made my chest tighten, like a bad playlist stuck on repeat. Why did his presence mess me up so much? I kept telling myself: Focus, Seren. You’re not here to catch feels. You’re here to survive high school. But, lol, easy said than done. I was rushing to my next class when suddenly — bam! — I bumped into someone. Books scattered everywhere. “Shoot! Sorry!” I bent down, scrambling to pick up my scattered notebooks. Kael? Of course. It had to be Kael. He smirked like it was some joke. “Watch where you’re going, Ice Queen.” I rolled my eyes, annoyed but not surprised. “Maybe you should watch.” He bent down to help, the awkward silence thick as ever. “Hey,” he said after a beat, voice softer this time, “I wanted to talk.” I froze, caught between wanting to run and wanting to know what he’d say. “What about?” I asked cautiously. “Us. What we’re doing.” He looked me straight in the eye — no smirk, no cocky grin. Just... real. I swallowed hard. “There’s nothing ‘us,’ Kael.” He nodded, but his eyes told a different story. “Maybe there could be,” he said quietly. My heart skipped, heat rushing up my cheeks. “Stop. Don’t.” But even as I said it, I wasn’t sure if I meant it. --- Kael Ronin Navarro’s POV There she was — the one person who shouldn’t have this effect on me but did anyway. Seren. Tough to read, tough to get close to. And that was exactly what made her worth chasing. I bumped into her — literally — and the universe probably laughed at my dumb luck. I wanted to tell her everything. That the rumors weren’t the whole story. That I wasn’t just some playboy riding around on a bike for fun. That beneath all the leather jackets and wild looks, I had feelings — real, messy feelings. But words felt stuck. “Seren,” I said, “I’m not perfect. Hell, I’m far from it. But I want to be honest. With you.” She looked away, biting her lip. “I’m tired of broken promises, Kael.” “Then don’t expect one from me. Just give me a chance.” Her eyes locked on mine, full of questions and maybe... hope? --- Seren’s POV I shook my head, frustrated with how he could make me feel like a total mess. “You’re a biker, Kael. You have your world. And I have mine.” “Maybe that’s why it should work.” “Opposites attract isn’t a fairy tale, Kael.” “Maybe not. But it’s a start.” I wanted to push him away, but my hands betrayed me, trembling just a little. “Why do you even care?” I asked. He hesitated. “Because I don’t want to be alone in this.” --- Meanwhile, back at the court Bea, Lia, and Ira watched from the sidelines. Bea bit her lip nervously, Lia crossed her arms protectively, and Ira rolled her eyes. “Do you think this is a good idea?” Bea whispered. “Honestly, no,” Lia said firmly. “Kael’s trouble, and Seren doesn’t need that drama.” “But what if he’s different?” Bea added hopefully. Ira snorted. “Yeah, right. Bikers don’t change overnight.” --- Kael’s friends were also buzzing Jace, Theo, Reign, and Miles gathered in their usual hangout spot, talking about Kael’s latest ‘soft moments.’ “Bro, you seriously like her?” Reign teased. “Since when do you get soft?” Jace laughed. Theo shrugged. “People change.” Miles just nodded quietly. “If she’s the one, we got your back.” --- Seren’s heart felt like a battlefield She wanted to believe in something new, something better. But she also knew that trusting meant opening herself up to pain. Kael was at a crossroads, and so was she. Could they really cross paths without crashing? --- To be continued...
