The color drained from Corbin's face.
I gave his shoulder a light pat.
"Also, you're going to be too busy to chase me anyway. My deal with Lorenzo states that once the Ferraro acquisition is complete, the Managing Director position at the branch office goes to me.
"You've been let go. If you've got free time, I suggest you start job hunting."
A shudder ran through him.
This time, I didn't look back. I turned, gave a small wave, and walked away.

One month later, once every last piece of the Ferraro acquisition had been finalized, Lorenzo made good on his promise.
I returned to the branch office as its new Managing Director, appointment letter in hand.
