Brenna lost her breath as the icy water engulfed her. The air she'd sucked in before hitting the fast moving water was knocked out of her body by the force of the impact. She managed not to inhale any water as she was pulled to the bottom and knocked against the rocks that made up the normally shallow creek. Stars appeared before her closed eyes as her shoulder slammed into a large boulder. She tried to pull her arms around her head to protect it, but the swiftly moving current refused to let her have control of her limbs.
Her lungs began to burn for want of air so much that she became lightheaded just as her face broke the surface. The rush of air into her lungs set them on fire. Her vision was blurred from the water and the hair that clung to her face. As the water speed slowed slightly
