I couldn’t tell you for sure how many days came and went while I was left in the dungeon with little food and water, just enough to keep me alive it seemed. The pain of the mate bond being violated happened daily, sometimes multiple times a day. At first I wondered why Tristan didn’t just reject me, but then I realized it was so I would feel everything. I don’t know when he became so cold, so evil, that this was what he thought was the right thing to do.
Occasionally Tristan would come in and see me, along with whatever flavor of the day was, and say nothing. He would just pin them against the wall and all but screw them while looking directly at me. I hid the pain well and eventually it just became normal, so much so that I barely felt it. Amethyst’s whimpers were the only real way I knew when he was breaking the bond.
Amethyst had also disappeared leaving me more isolated. Had it not been for Phillips occasional visits, I probably would have gone mad by now. He only ever stays for a few minutes and never says anything of substance, still leaving me clueless as to why I was in this situation in the first place.
One day, or night, I wasn’t quite sure, I was woken by a guard unlocking my gate and holding his hand out to me. I hoped that this was him trying to help me escape, but that hope was quickly dashed as soon as I heard the cuff latching around my wrists. I try to not hiss as the silver stings against my bare skin, which was next to bones at this point. He brings me upstairs and I am met with all the faces of my pack. Many of them are looking at me with sorrow and sympathy, a few look at me in horror as if I was some monster that had been hiding amongst them. I keep my head raised despite feeling petrified. I could tell this was a trial of some sort, I had helped decide the fate of many during my time as Luna and we always had the people as witnesses.
I am brought to the front and forced to my knees in front of Tristan. He held a slight smirk that you would only be able to tell if you were looking closely at him. He looked triumphant, as if a long awaited plan had finally come full circle.
“My Cresent Blood pack members. Today you bear witness to the trial of former Luna Roselyn Gregor. She stands accused of murder of Penelope Langdon.” He states to the back, his eyes flickering to me as he says the name of the woman I had caught him sleeping with all those nights ago.
“I didn’t murder anyone! I was too busy mourning the betrayal of my mate to do any such thing!” I spit at him. I glance around the room and no one will meet my eyes.
“Do you have an alibi or witnesses to your actions that night?” He sneers, knowing I didn’t as he had asked me that first night I was in the dungeon.
“No. I was in my office.”
“With miss Langdon’s body we found a note reading ‘Revenge is a b***h’. It seems you typed the note up in an attempt to hid your handwriting. Clever, but after a thorough investigation you are the only one with clear motivation and no alibi.” All of his “evidence” was circumstantial and would never hold up in a court of law, unfortunately werewolves don’t follow human laws. He doesn’t need a jury, clear evidence, or anything to mark me as guilty.
“Mrs. Gregor, you are found guilty and are sentenced to death.” Tristan’s voice booms through the room. Gasps echo all around but no one objects or tries to interfere. I don’t even try to fight because there is no point. I am going to die.
Troy brings out a chair with straps at the wrists and ankles. I’m placed into it and strapped tightly in. Troy tries to give me a faint smile and whispers, “I will make it as painless as I can, Luna.”
Fear grips my stomach and a single tear rolls down my face. Knowing my fate has been sealed. I see the pack doctor pulling what I assume to be wolfsbane and silver into a syringe, a deadly cocktail for any wolf. Tristan steps into my view, hate glinting in his eyes,
“I, Tristan Gregor, Alpha of the Crescent Blood pack, reject you, Roselyn Gregor, as my mate and Luna.” A pain, far worse than that of the bond being betrayed rips through my body and I cry out, not caring who hears anymore. Quickly, the pain dulls and I set my face in stone.
“I, Roselyn Gregor, accept your rejection. May you rot in hell.” I glare at him, getting only a small sense of satisfaction when he falls to one knee gritting his jaw in pain. He deserves it and so much more.
He looks up at me and then to the crowd, “The execution will now take place.”
The doctor walks up to me, and slowly sticks the needle into my arm. I feel the serum making it’s why into my veins, the pain is unreal and I question if Troy actually did anything to help the pain.
Dark spots begin to cloud my vision and I know the end is coming. I close my eyes and pray to the moon goddess.
This isn’t how I’m supposed to go. Please, let me do it again. I can’t let this be it. Please, if you can hear me, let me try again.
I know it will make no difference but I try to reach out to anyone and everyone in my mind. Begging to do it again. My life was too short, I didn’t even get to be a mother or hug my siblings one more time, or try baking my grandmas secret brownie recipe. There was so much left to do. As I let go of my final breath I swear I hear a voice.
As you wish my child. Find the one with silver eyes.
Darkness consumes me.
