CHAPTER 16: HOME IS YOU

457 Words
Years passed softly, like pages turning in a well-loved book. Florence faded into memory, Paris into nostalgia, and a new life bloomed in the quiet countryside outside London. Their house wasn’t grand just two rooms filled with sunlight and shelves overflowing with books, music sheets, and paint-stained canvases. The walls were painted in warm colors, echoing laughter, memories, and the hum of the life they had built together. Adrian had become a celebrated composer. His name appeared in music journals and programs; students came from all over Europe to study under him. Yet, to Eliana, he was still the man who smiled sleepily in the mornings, who sometimes burned his toast, who kissed her on the forehead when he thought she was asleep. Eliana herself had grown into her art. Her paintings were exhibited in small galleries, and for the first time, she began teaching others not technique, but emotion. She told her students that art was just another way to say what words couldn’t. When they asked how she learned that, she would smile and say, “From someone who once forgot how to feel.” Their wedding was small and private, held under an old oak tree behind their house. Adrian had planned every detail himself the white roses, the soft piano music, the vows written on folded pieces of paper. When Eliana walked toward him, wearing a simple ivory dress that brushed the grass, he forgot how to breathe. The ceremony wasn’t grand, but it was real. They spoke of love, forgiveness, and faith the kind that doesn’t fade even after storms. “I used to believe I didn’t deserve love,” Adrian whispered as he slid the ring onto her finger. “But then you taught me that love isn’t about deserving. It’s about staying.” Eliana’s eyes shimmered with tears as she replied, “And I used to think love was fragile. But now I know it’s stronger than fear, stronger than time.” When they kissed, the wind stirred gently through the trees, scattering petals like blessings. Friends cheered softly, music played, and the world seemed to pause for a heartbeat just for them. That evening, as they danced under the fading light, Adrian held her close and murmured, “Do you ever think about how it all began? The university, the fountain, the cold boy who didn’t know how to love?” Eliana laughed, her voice warm. “I remember him. But he’s not so cold anymore.” He smiled, pressing his forehead to hers. “Because of you.” The stars shimmered above them, silent witnesses to a love that had weathered everything. And for the first time, neither of them felt lost. They were exactly where they belonged.
