CHAPTER 12: A CONFESSION AND THE KISS

293 Words
A week later, the exhibition was still being talked about across campus, but what lingered most in Eliana’s heart wasn’t the praise it was the conversation by the fountain the night after. Adrian had asked her to meet him there, the same spot where so much between them had begun and broken. The evening was calm, the fountain whispering softly. He stood waiting, hands in his pockets, nervous in a way that didn’t suit his usual calm. When she arrived, he exhaled as if releasing years of weight. “Eliana,” he began, “I’ve spent so long trying to say the right words. But the truth is simple I love you. I probably always did, even when I was too afraid to show it.” She froze, her heart stumbling over the confession. The boy who had once been unreachable, who had built walls of ice around himself, was finally standing bare before her. She stepped closer, tears glimmering in her eyes. “I loved you too,” she said softly. “Even when I tried not to.” He reached out, hesitant, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Then let’s stop running from it.” The kiss came slow, almost reverent — the meeting of two souls who had learned the cost of silence and the strength of forgiveness. Around them, the fountain shimmered beneath the moonlight, and for the first time, their hearts beat in perfect rhythm. Eliana pulled back slightly, whispering, “You’re not cold anymore.” He smiled, eyes bright with warmth. “You melted it all away.” And as they stood there, wrapped in the quiet night, they both understood love wasn’t about perfection. It was about choosing each other again, after everything.
