Chapter1

Breathe Maleyeeh. Just a little while longer. The twigs snapped underneath my feet as I ran through the forest, securing my baby tightly in my arms. It didn't help that she wouldn't stop crying, alerting the pursuers of our whereabouts. Once again, I shoved aside the thoughts of stuffing a piece of clothing in her mouth to keep her shut. However, there was no time for that. Once I heard the gnashing of teeth behind me, I knew our doom was fast approaching and would consume us if we didn't get out of the way. My eyes struggled to locate a perfect hiding place as I skidded across the trees. Just before my feet could get there, a wolf jumped on me out of nowhere and the baby fell off my hands. No! No! No! Her cries burst out as I struggled to get the wolf off me. It was way stronger and aiming for my neck. I could see more of them approaching. Tears clouded my vision as I thought about my innocent baby. “Get off me, dammit!” I growled, throwing him off me. My body felt weak due to the surge of power, but I had no time to waste. I scrambled off the floor and quickly grabbed my baby. My steps had become slower because my body was weak from using my powers, but the wolves were catching up quickly, and I needed to throw them off our trail. I glanced back, “veib thraeni assul,” I muttered the spell and a heavy wind blew. My body was on the verge of giving up, but I couldn't pass out yet. Andre was going to find us soon. I had to hold on to him. As the wind became more violent, resulting in a huge hurricane, I could barely see a thing. Everything was moving so fast. The sands, leaves, wolves, everything in sight, except me, of course. I hurried to the tree in front of me. “Talisus maniequun,” I mumbled, and it opened up for me to slip inside. The minute I was inside the three, the hurricane stopped. Blood trickled down my nose. I quickly put the girl to sleep and dropped her safely in a corner. I examined the wound in my stomach. It's been three days, yet it refused to heal. It just kept bleeding like a fresh wound no matter how I tried to stop the blood. It was the very reason I was too weak to fully use my powers. Days ago, after Andre declared me his Luna, there had been a rebellion in the pack. Somehow, they had managed to break the illusion spell I put on them. There was no way the wolves would accept a witch as their Luna, so Andre suggested I made them believe I was one. He was tired of the secret affair. He wanted to show us off. Perhaps if he had known this would happen, he would have stepped down as Alpha to live openly with us or continued the secret affair. The illusion spell lasted for months. They saw me as a rare white wolf. Until, of course, the spell broke during the official marking process, and they realized the truth because of the marking on my back. They thought I deceived him and ordered me to be burned according to the punishment for witches, but Andre wouldn't have it. That set off the rebellion and Andre asked me to run away with the baby while he held them off. In the process of escaping, I ran into a rival pack who was about to ambush them. I was captured while they continued their plan, but I got the message to Andre and it got messy. I got stabbed with the Tynre Blade. A dagger specially made for killing witches, but I managed to escape. My powers weakened, and I bled for days, but I couldn't give up because of the innocent life in my arms. All I could do was wait and hope that Andre would find us soon. “Where is she?!” I heard suddenly. My body became alert immediately. I carried my baby and listened attentively for any sign of danger. “I don't know. We couldn't see through the hurricane,” another responded. “I don't care if you are blind or not, find her! Spread into the forest, find that witch by all means!” “How do we know she hasn't tricked us? Maybe she's no longer in the forest or has she put on some invisibility spell?” Another suggested. Tears stung my eyes. Where the hell are you Andre? I don't know how much longer I can hold on. When I got stabbed, our mind link became weaker and weaker until it was completely broken. I couldn't feel him anymore. I didn't want to believe he was dead. He couldn't die while we were still out here. “Spread out and search! Stop making assumptions!” Relief washed through me. I dropped to the floor, rocking the sleeping girl. My lips stretched into a smile. She looked so much like her father. She was more fond of him than she was of me. I planted a kiss on her forehead. “Mommy will keep you safe. As long as I am alive, no harm will come to you,” I assured her. As if she heard me, she smiled in her sleep. “Maleyeeh!” I blinked. Andre? “Maleyeeh, where are you?” He yelled again. Stop yelling, please. Stop yelling. I tried to reach him but, of course, he couldn't hear me. Couldn't he smell the wolves around? “Baby, please come out. Let me protect you,” he pleaded, and I got up. I was about to get outside the tree to warn him about the wolves and hide him with me, but something stopped me. “Baby, where are you?” Andre never called me baby. I didn't want to use any more of my powers, so I would stay conscious. “Maleyeeh!” If it was really him, why hadn't the wolves attacked yet? Surely they couldn't pretend to not hear all that yelling. I suspected it was a skin crawler. They were wolves who could impersonate anybody. If this was their plan to draw me out, then they failed miserably. “Commander, I don't think she's anywhere in this forest,” I heard shortly after. I scoffed. I was right! “Then why do I still sense her around?” My heart skipped a beat. “Should we search further?” he asked. “No. I already have wolves stationed all around this forest. She cannot escape,” the man responded. “Do we leave then?” “No. Burn it to the ground!” My soul almost left my body. I was doomed!
