Katie walked back to the landing. She debated going downstairs, but decided to go straight to her room. When she got there, a man in his mid-twenties was sitting on the bed.
"Katie, how lovely to see you" he said, "I saw you arrive with.......was that your sister?"
"No, Samuel. You know full well that I am not a born turned. That was Sarah, a newly turned that I identified on assignment".
"Mmm.. really, she looks just like you. The same height, the same build. The same mousy blonde hair and big hazel eye. Are you sure you are not related?"
Katie was sure that Samuel was trying to wind her up, but now that she thought about it, Sarah did look a lot like her. They could have been sisters. Katie knew she was not related to her though, so pushed the thought down.
"Samuel, I have had a long day. I want to rest a little before dinner, would you mind?" Katie said, gesturing to the door.
Samuel left, Katie closed and locked the door behind him before flopping down on the bed and closing her eyes.
Katie woke up about an hour later. She looked at her watch - just enough time to shower and then get Sarah for dinner. Katie went into her en-suite, showered quickly and then got dressed. She wore a pretty floral dress. She headed out her door, past the landing and into the corridor that led to dorm 6. When she got there, she knocked.
"Come in," Sarah called.
Katie walked in, "You ready for dinner?".
"Sure am" she answered and they both headed out the door.
Katie and Sarah headed down the stair and then Katie led Sarah through a door that was to the right of the stair case, down a corridor with dark wooden panels. Sarah could smell the food. It smelt like regular canteen food. When they got to the dining hall, it was just as Sarah had imagined. There were several long tables with benches on either side and in front of them, all at the back of the hall, was a slightly nicer table with chairs.
"We can sit anywhere tonight" Katie said, "but tomorrow night I will be sat on that table. I will make sure you are not alone though. You will get buddied up with a final year student. I will make sure she's nice."
They sat down at the nearest bench, shorty after a few serving bowls with vegetables were placed on the table by a young woman. Sarah would have guessed she was about 18. "Is she a student?" Sarah asked.
"Who?" Katie said, looking around for any students that she hadn't noticed.
"The girl who served us."
"Oh, no that's Maggie, she works here. Goodness, I don't even know how long she has been here. She is a wonderful cook though. She made all of tonight's dishes"
