A Journey to Adulthood

Chapter 2

No friends to talk to, classmates treat me as a plague, to others it will feel like a misfortune to be in this school, but to me it is the best for me, cause normally I don't have the strength to deal with people or to butter up to people. I prefer the solemnity I have, but of recent, it has not been like that because of a certain person; "Demain!!" .

" Yo May, over here," and he waves to her to signal her to come over. Demain is a disturbing piss of s**t 😒, I really don't know what he is doing here because the 12th grade is on another block.

" uhhhh." I will just ignore him and leave the hallway. " Yo May wait up, I will talk to you girls later," and he winks at them and scurry off. " I don't know why he is always talking to that loner." "Yeah, and she is really rude. How I wish his eyes would just be on me and only me, " and she blushes hard.

" May, wait up!!!, why are you avoiding me?"Dont refer to me by my pet name, we are not on a friendship level, and I think you should be the one to answer that question. What are you doing here, and why are you always bothering me. You are dragging attention towards me."

" I just wanted to speak to you, but if I bother you, then I am sorry. Are we cool now? " Yeah, I think so. What were you calling me for ?" "Ohh it is true. I wanted to invite you over to my place for a party like a get-together. "And did you think I will accept to come attend the party?" 'Don't know, that is why I am asking you now. "Then I am sorry to disappoint you because I won't be coming for your party. If that is all you wanted to say, I am off to my class and don't come disturbing me again." And she walks off and takes a turn to her class.

'Why does she always play hard to get, but I love a challenge, and I won't give up easily.' "Demain what you doing there, the teacher has been looking for you." Coming!!"

Demain is always disturbing me, I really wonder why because I know that the Demain that is well known in this school is a flirt and doesn't have time for floaters like me. And i still wonder how it came to us talking every day now.

It all started in the hall way, I was running because I was already late for my morning class. I didn't watch the direction I was running in and mistakenly bumped into him. I was already expecting the pain on my forehead as I would soon kiss the ground, but luckily for me, he caught me by my waist, which I was grateful for because he spared me some drama with the inner circle bitches but what was coming was not what I expected.

He bent towards my ear and whispered gently with his seductive voice, " Are you this desperate to fall into my arms, and if you are, I can grant your wishes," then he bent towards my lips to kiss me which I noticed on time and averted my face and luckily it landed on my cheek, then I scurried of him and ran away praying to never come across him again.

"Maya, Maya," 'Huh.' "Answer the question. " 'Sorry Sir, but please can you repeat the question.' "Miss ugly is now becoming miss deaf, haha." No, I think she is pretending not to know because she is dumb, haha." 'Enough class, stop laughing this instance. Maya listen attentively. The question is, what is macroeconomics? '

I should have answered the question because it was easy, but if I do, who will feed the mockery inside my classmates and give them the opportunity to make jest of me in other to feel good and superior. "Sir, I do not know the answer to the question." ' What were we expecting she can never answer a question in class or be a part of the class, haha' " I feel when she was being given birth to by her mum, her brain cells had not developed fully 😅" 'Enough class, Maya, I expected you to know the answer but as you don't know it, sit down and pay appropriate attention to the class. I will explain it from the beginning again.' "Thank you, sir," and she sits down.

Finally, the school period is over, and I can go home now. Normally, Jerry doesn't come to pick me up, and Aiden uses his school bus. So I do walk home every day after school, which is stressful but somehow conducive because i can think on my way, clear the burden from my mind, and branch to my favourite ice cream shop.

"Ring!!!!!!!!!" There goes the bell, time to hit the road. She inhales and exhales, "sssssss, hhhhh, fresh air finally. I felt like I was suffocating inside there. Let me start going before trouble comes to find me.

"Maya, Maya!!!, you heading home, let me drop you." 'Not going my way.' Don't this boy read into the meaning of my words, I specifically warned him the other time to back off from me. "Honk,honk!!!!" 'What is it? Can't you relent and stop being persistent.' And he drives up to her and blocks the way she was taking. "If you just get into the car, then maybe I won't be doing this!!!🤔. Or do you want me to carry you into the car, I can do that 😏." And he comes down and starts walking towards her with an intentional look on his face. She pushes him away and gets into the car after huffing. He smirks outside before returning into the car and driving off.

"So, are you heading home straight?" 'Yes.' "Okay, input your address into the GPS on the car." 'There is no need for that my house is located in a narrow lane and your car won't be able to fit through there. So just drop me off by the road, and I will take a walk home." 'Maya, are you angry, I am dropping you off at home? Huhhh, I am sorry if you are, I just wanted to have a conversation.' "Yep, I know that was your intention, and I am not angry. I just don't have anything to say to you."

"We have arrived at the place." She alighted from the car and came towards his window, 'Thank you for dropping me off.' And she turns and starts walking away, but was dragged back by Demain and was pecked on the cheek by him. "You're welcome. See you tomorrow, bye." And he enters his car and reverses and zooms off, leaving her stunned and fixated to the ground.

She gapes into the empty space and mumbles "what the f**k is wrong with his head" while blushing.
