I secretly stole a glance at Nikol, who was now sitting on the edge of the bed, watching me with a cold stare. With hands that trembled slightly, I untied the belt of the bathrobe I was wearing and let it slide down my shoulders.
“Do I really have to do this?”
Nikol’s sharp eyes stared at me expressionlessly; he remained silent, not answering at all.
Nervously, I pulled out an outfit from my bag. There was a beautiful black dress that fit perfectly. The dress was gorgeous, but it was much shorter than the oversized clothes I usually wore every day.
I stared at the black dress for quite a while, then mustered the courage to look up at Nikol hesitantly.
“Is… there no other outfit?” I asked softly.
Nikol let out a lopsided smirk. He pulled his phone from his pocket and tapped the screen awake. “You just wear that, or you wear nothing at all,” he stated with absolute finality.
I let out a sharp exhale. I had no other choice. Reluctantly, I put on the black dress. But my unease grew even more when I saw Nikol raise his phone toward me.
“What are you doing? Why are you pointing that at me?!” I snapped, annoyed.
Nikol stared at me blankly and lowered his phone.
“What I’m doing is none of your business. Finish getting dressed!”
I bit my lower lip. There was no point in fighting it under these circumstances. This black dress was really short, hitting right at my thighs and clearly showing off my curves.
“I’m uncomfortable,” I muttered softly as I tried to pull the bottom of the dress down to cover my thighs, but it was no use.
I stood there awkwardly, unsure of what to do. To be honest, I was starving, but my pride kept me from asking Nikol for food.
Nikol, noticing my confused expression, moved his fingers, motioning for me to come closer. “Come here!” he snapped when he saw me hesitating.
With hesitant steps, I walked toward him. Nikol grabbed my wrist, forcing me to sit on the small sofa right in front of the bed where he was reclining.
Nikol took the plate of food brought by the waiter and handed it to me. “Eat.”
My eyes lit up slightly. Finally, I could fill my stomach after a whole day of going hungry. I quickly grabbed the spoon next to the plate.
Grep!
Just as I was about to take my first bite, Nikol firmly grabbed my left wrist. I glared at him in protest.
“What now?” I asked listlessly.
Nikol didn’t answer. He stood up and walked over to the large cabinet in the corner of the room. From there, he pulled out a long iron chain and a padlock.
I furrowed my brow. Nikol returned to stand in front of me, grabbing my left wrist without saying a word. Before I had a chance to process what was happening, Nikol chained my left wrist and locked it to the bedpost next to the bed.
CLICK!
My eyes widened. This crazy man actually chained me up so I couldn’t escape!
“All done. You’ll eat over there on the couch,” Nikol ordered casually.
“You’re chaining me up like an animal?!” I hissed angrily.
“Eat on the couch, Elena. I want to sleep,” Nikol cut in coldly, ignoring my protests. He lay back down on the bed and closed his eyes, as if he hadn’t just tied a human being up with an iron chain.
I gritted my teeth, glaring at the man who was now lying back down, completely at ease. With my left hand bound by a fairly heavy chain, I moved my plate and sat on the sofa near the window.
“Look at that bastard… he deliberately chained me up so I couldn’t run away while he sleeps,” I muttered sarcastically as I shoveled food into my mouth.
How am I ever going to escape from here?
But my chewing, amid this despair, suddenly stopped. My eyes, sweeping the lower corner of the sofa, accidentally caught sight of something near my feet.
A small, shiny metal object lay there—a sharp metal hairpin of mine, which had fallen off when I was dragged earlier.
“It looks like it might work—it could get me out of here.”
Nikol’s breathing, now steady and slow, filled the increasingly silent room. My tongue froze in my mouth, while my gaze shifted back and forth between the metal hairpin on the floor, the keyhole in the cuff on my wrist, and Nikol’s body, lying with his back to me on the mattress.
My heart was pounding brutally fast. The chance to escape was right in front of my eyes, but if I were caught… I knew Nikolay Volkov would never let me breathe easy again.
