I climbed into the trunk.

That made her laugh again as I was dragged out the door to hell.

“Well, I was kind of sure when I had that little talk with you,” she said, “but when you oinked I knew that any man in a position like you were in who could make a joke at a time like that was absolutely the man for me.”

“Hello, Phyllis,” she said, “it’s Stephanie, Lucky’s owner. I’ve changed my mind. When can you come and get him?”

I let the note fall to the floor.

I swept her into my arms and carried her to the bedroom.

She laughed.

I could feel the bile rising in my throat.

My world closed in as she led me out to her car.

I shuddered but at least it was something to look forward to.

With that he pushed me into the trunk and slammed the lid.
