(Eden’s POV) I had just shut down my laptop when the thought hit me—I’ll swing by my parents’ place. It wasn’t planned. I hadn’t promised. Nothing about that evening felt structured enough for a visit. It was one of those instincts that came out of nowhere, sharp and insistent, like fate clearing its throat and waiting for me to pay attention. I tossed my jacket over my shoulder and left. The house lights were on when I pulled into the driveway. Too bright. Too loud. My body reacted before my mind did. I hadn’t even closed the car door when my father’s voice thundered through the walls. “This is your fault!” I froze. My fingers tightened around my keys until the metal bit into my skin.
