betrayed and broken

425 Words
As I prepared for the presentation, Linda handed me a cup of coffee and wished me luck. However, she revealed that she wouldn't be able to present with me, as her conscience wouldn't allow her to take credit for work she didn't do. I was shocked and felt betrayed. After drinking the coffee, I dozed off and woke up in my house, unsure of what had happened. Lili informed me that Linda had presented the project and was offered the promotion that was meant for me. I was devastated and tried to call Felix, but he didn't answer. I broke down in tears, feeling frustrated and betrayed. Lili comforted me, and I realized that I needed to take action to clear my name and reclaim what was rightfully mine. I walked into the office on Monday, armed with a letter detailing everything that had transpired. I headed straight to the CEO's office, determined to clear my name. However, before I could even present my letter, the CEO pulled out a bag of drugs and accused me of bringing them into the office. I was shocked and devastated as he shouted at me, expressing his disappointment and disillusionment. He told me that I had lost my job, effective immediately, and ordered me to clear my desk. The CEO stormed out of his office, leaving me reeling. As I made my way to the staircase, I saw Felix, but he avoided eye contact and quickly passed by. I gathered my belongings and headed home, feeling defeated and humiliated. The experience was too much to bear, and I broke down in tears. That evening, I received calls from my former team members, and Lili visited me at home. We shared the story with Susan, who was sympathetic and apologetic. I couldn't help but wonder how my dream job had slipped away from me. Felix called me later that evening and asked me to come downstairs. When I met him, he was holding my letter. He told me that he had read it and knew Linda well enough to believe that she wouldn't intentionally harm someone for personal gain. With that, he turned and left, leaving me feeling even more broken. A month later, Susan called me with some good news – she had secured a job for me in the States. It was a lifeline, a chance to escape the depression that had been weighing me down. I felt a sense of relief wash over me, and I knew that this was an opportunity for a fresh start.
