The power finally got restored, and it was a big relief for Julia, but she still needed to get to the dimmer. Picking up the scissors, she threaded cautiously and as she closed in she heard a thud, like a body collapsing.
"Urgh!"
She hated the way her mind always went straight to the horrifying options. They were like a million things she could have thought of. The thud sounded like anything, so why a body? She was never going to watch those crime movies that involved serial killers because it had clearly gotten the best of her.
Anyway , the mystery wasn't going to solve itself, so she continued to move. When she got there, she did see the body of a man, though there was no blood, which was another relief for her because she wasn't ready for a gory scene.
'What if...', her thoughts started again, but she held it just there. She had imagined a lot of things that night, and she had had enough of it.
The lights became bright thanks to her, and she tipped the man over. He was drunk and a worker at the establishment. He had to be because who went around dropping on floors of rich firms?
The figure on the floor didn't seem like someone she might have seen regularly in the office so was the burglar. She couldn't tell as she had not been long in the firm, it was going to take her a long time before she registered with everyone in her head. She remembered seeing him sometime but wasn't even sure of the purpose.
All of a sudden the memory came back to her. He was her boss. She had seen him in a photograph, one that hung in the office of the senior officer. She saw at times when she was called upon to receive paperwork.
‘ Those lousy people ‘, she sneered.
But why was her boss on the floor drunk? She rolled her eyes at him in a way that said, ‘So does he have a drinking disorder?’
“ Rich people are so pathetic, especially the spoiled ones," she scoffed and attempted to lift him off the ground, but then again another expression left her lips. It was a grunt.
He was quite heavy and never had such a weight been imposed on her. It wasn't imposed, but there was no way she was leaving her boss on the floor. If there was nothing at stake for her, his reputation was; knowing fully well how gossip went around here, he would be the topic of discourse here for days.
But his weight was bad, and she wasn't breaking her back at some random, even though he was her employer, a bad dilemma.
Vibrations flowed right into her hands as she gripped his. He was palpitating, not consciously. That was when it came to her notice that he'd been drugged.
‘ Ouch’, the thought couldn't help but surface, a naughty smirk came through her face? ‘ Could he have been drugged for a date r**e, Damn, it Julia, be serious for once!’
Her brain had been totally serious, it was starting to make a joke out of everything, and wasn't it nice? What if he was dying? She placed her hands under his suit and noticed that he was perspiring so much, it was serious.
Her phone got grabbed ferociously from the table in an attempt to call an ambulance, but the device powered down that instant. Doomed, yes she was because her charger was about one and a half kilometers away.
Lots of thoughts were streaming in at the moment. She didn't know his house or anyone related to him. They wouldn't even answer if she called, opting to get a cab to the nearest hospital. But what if the person that drugged him goes there to finish him off?
Rich people were supposed to move with bodyguards. Where were they ? And to think of it, this has been happening all day today. She searched the trousers for his phone or anything but his pockets were empty.
‘ Breathe, just take him home and think of the rest with a cup of coffee’
That was a plan worth following. She dashed towards the elevator to get a cab. It took a great deal to convince the cab driver to help her out, but in no time they were on their way to her apartment.
They had arrived at her apartment before the next hour and, with the help of the cab driver, her boss was in her bed!. That didn't sound as normal as it would seem.
The room was well aerated, but her boss was still sweating. She had already removed his jacket and kept it aside, but it wasn't helping matters.
If he continued like that, the bed would be drenched, pacing around the room and, deep in thought of the explanation, she was lying down when he eventually woke up. Of course, she would have to give an explanation of why she would bring him to her home.
Panic,
That was it, the reason, but wouldn't it make her appear like a rash individual in decision-making? He could even have her removed from the firm. Gosh, the job was of great importance to her.
Once again, her attention got caught by her boss’s slight movement as he turned over, revealing a damped spot.
Before she could think twice, she unbuttoned his shirt. He grabbed her hand, weakly though, and it made her freak out. Some sound had already escaped her mouth before she managed to hold it in.
“ I think Rosé is…”, her boss said and completed the rest in gibberish,“ and disco balls are fascinatingly edible.
‘He does look good in person ‘, she thought, though his looks did not tally with what he was saying.
The memory of her colleagues crying after him at work made her chuckle. If only they saw their crush right now, they would make a match after all their daydreams were not less silly than what he was saying.
The night was so silent that it felt like noise when coffee spilled out of the machine. Her boss's voice did come up at intervals. She sat still moping in the open space before her in her living room for a long time, perhaps she was still in trauma or maybe not.
It struck 1 AM and the cuckoo wall clock came to life with a more piercing noise. Had it made that amount of noise or was it just her?
‘s**t!’,
The following day was a work day, and she needed to be there by seven or before. After the cup of coffee, she laid down on the couch, snuggling into a blanket and staring at the ceiling. Now she didn't hear his voice anymore, perhaps the intoxication of whatever he was on had subsided.
She woke up at the sound of both the cuckoo clock and her phone alarm. They both produced a unique sound that was registered in her biological clock as a waking time. The way she looked up showed that leaving was a burden to her. She had slept off and forgot to unplug her phone.
Confused as to the reason she had just woken up on the couch, she rubbed her eyes, grabbed her blanket and walked into her room.
‘Yikes ‘
Why was there a person on her bed? It took her a while to reprocess and remember what had happened yesterday. Ah! Her nap really took away the heavy thoughts that had completely gripped her before.
‘He might need coffee when he wakes up’, she muttered and rushed to her kitchen to get it prepared.

The eyes finally opened and for the first time he became conscious of his environment , ‘Where was he?’. The environment looked like a cubicle but, surprisingly, there was a bed, so it had to be a bedroom. But how did he get here? ‘Was he being held hostage by an abductor?
He sat up trying to see if he could retrace his steps. It was very awkward because last he remembered was that he was with his friend, Steve, and then he got a glass of wine. He didn't have much, could he have been drugged?
He heard footsteps arriving, so he grabbed the first thing that reached his hands without removing his gaze from the door.
To his surprise, he saw a lady. He was expecting a man. She was about 5’10, had jet black hair, but he didn't recognize her, she didn't seem like she would pose any harm. Thinking of it, the only thing on her was a tray containing a teapot and a mug.
“ Good morning," the lady managed to say. Even the way she said it showed that she was confused in what she was doing.
A response was prepared, but it didn't leave his mouth. Disappointment went all over his face, he couldn't believe he had just engaged in a one-night stand, it was way more embarrassing than he had imagined it to be.
The girl motioned forward, making him jump to his feet. This made her.
“ I was just going to offer you coffee.”
“Where are my clothes?” he fired.
“ Okay, that wasn't how I expected things to go, but they are over there," she said, pointing to a corner where it was on a hanger.
He grabbed them hurriedly, putting on only the shirt.
“ Have I given you your pay?”
She looked more confused now than before.
“ Pay for what exactly, bringing you to my home?”
“ Oh don't pretend like you don't know what I mean, pay for….” He couldn't bring himself to say it, though he lowered his eyes.
“ I don't understand what you are talking about.”
He clearly didn't have time for drama, so he quickly made his way out of the room, flagged down a taxi and was off.

Just like she had thought, he ran out of her apartment like a jerk and a rich person he was. What if he wasn't roofed? Maybe he took the drugs by himself and couldn't handle the impact. She wasn't expecting less after his little put up, whatever, one thing she didn't have at the moment and was definitely spending the little she had on an arrogant human. When she woke up, she had only an hour to prepare and after that she wasn't sure if she still had up to twenty minutes. The coffee in the cup instantly got emptied into her belly and she dashed into the bathroom.
About thirty-five minutes later, the cab in which she entered dropped her at her workplace, a twenty-five-storey high-rise building.
She has the name on it, ‘ Northbridge’. It was simple, but she knew she was still going to forget it because the only thing that seemed to stick was ‘north’.
This had to be the last thing on her mind at the moment because she had to make it past the reception stealthily if she didn't want to get into trouble.
