SHANTELLE/LAURENE
I have not sensed anything unusual in the pack since I came. Although everything seemed to be organized, I knew it was just a camouflage. If I deduct based on what Asher told me about the pack, he said they were suffering from the breakout of an illness but I didn't see anything close to that.
Could it be some sort of trap? For me to come here?
I shook my head, dismissing the thought. Raymond does not even know that I still exist. In fact, he must have forgotten me. If his Beta, Zonal, could still recognize me. Then I must avoid meeting him at all costs.
“Mommy! Where are we?” Dylan asked me.
I looked down at him where he stood, holding my hand. His eyes reminded me fully of Raymond’s greyish eyes. I smiled, looking forward. “At your…” I trailed off, catching myself before I let my thoughts out.
“Huh, mommy?” I glanced at him, clearing my throat.
“Erm…” I crouched down to his level. “I was told to come here for work so you should try to socialize yourself with the other kids. Okay?” I urged him, dipping my head to see his reaction. Out of all my kids, he was the only one who preferred to be left alone. I understood that he was the eldest, but still… he should try to be jovial.
He nodded, not using his words. Okay, I guess I would have to keep trying.
Tanya’s loud shriek caught my attention and we both shook our heads, knowing fully well how troublesome that girl could be with her brother, Rob.
We returned to the living room and paused when we saw the mess the entire place was in. I looked up, and Mrs. K stood there just as well, her hands holding her waist in weariness.
She has been the one who helped us to settle in after the entire incident with us being locked in the dungeon. I pitied her because she was the eldest and yet almost the weakest. That was one of the reasons I was in a rage.
I needed to tell Raymond about that. Since when did visitors get abducted and put in the dungeon to await inspection start in this pack?
“Tanya!” I reprimanded.
She gasped and looked up at me, fear evident in her big blue eyes. “Mommy,” She grimaced, fully aware of the reason I had called her.
“Take a look at how you messed the entire place up,” I told her. She looked around, pouting sadly with her toys in her hand.
“Mrs. K is always stressed enough and you have now given her more work to do.” I shook my head. I had told myself that I would train my kids in the most gentlest yet disciplined way possible.
I needed her to see her fault and she stared at me, looking remorseful. “I’m sorry.” She apologized.
Mrs. Kamara smiled, wanting to pet her but I spoke up before she could. “Then start packing everything if you want to show that you are sorry.”
She nodded her head timidly and began to pick up her toys, taking them back to her room.
Kamara gave me an appreciative smile. The boys also joined her in fixing the place while I went to the kitchen with Kamara.
“You know I could have cleared it up myself. I don't see it as a burden, Laurene. In fact, it is even a second chance for me to taste what being a granny is and this is…”
“I know, Kamara but I don't want them to be spoilt, especially Tanya. She needs to see that some things need to be done by herself.” I said before Kamara could go on lecturing me instead of Tanya.
She opened her mouth to speak but closed it, probably thinking that I was right.
“When are you going to see the Alpha of the pack? It has been four days since we arrived.” She asked, returning to the fruit salad she was making to keep in the fridge.
I shrugged. “After what they put us through, they should not expect me to start work immediately. I need to heal.” I said. She cast a quick glance at me at the last word I uttered.
I uttered a scoff, a faint smile on my face.

Later that day, I decided to take a walk in the pack. The kids had begged me to take them as well but the fear that I might bump into Raymond convinced me even more.
Not to add that the guards here acted on their primal instincts, they could kill me on-site if that was possible anyway.
I would not lie, I missed my home. I missed this place. After I had gotten married to Raymond, my father merged our packs and we were now one which made our pack larger and probably stronger. The urge to visit the house I used to leave with my father overwhelmed me but I knew that if I did so, it would only add more suspicion to me than I wanted so I decided to visit the pack hospital.
“Hey!” A baritone voice called behind me as I entered through the gate.
I halted to a pause.
“Who are you?” He questioned.
I blinked, reaching for my identity card. Thankfully, I took it with me this time. “Doctor Laurene Carlisle,” I replied.
“You are not from here?” He scrutinized me from head to toe.
“Yes—”
“Yes, she is not. She is our guest.” Zonal’s voice cut in. I turned to him, narrowing my eyes slightly at him. Was he following me?
“Good afternoon.” He greeted.
I bobbed my head in response. The guard gave me a once-over before leaving us.
“I see that you came to the hospital.” He said, clearing the awkward air between us.
“Yes, I came to see if I could meet the head of—”
“You see,” He stopped, making me halt too as well. “You are not working fully at the hospital.” He cringed at what he said.
I inclined my head to the side. “What do you mean by that?”
“The people that were affected by the plague breakout are not in the hospital.” He clarified.
“Oh.” That was all I could say.
“So they were isolated?”
“No,” He shook his head. “They were kept away from the people to avoid more breakouts and they are under heavy supervision by professionals in our pack.”
“Professional? For how long has this breakout been?” I pulled my lower lip in as I watched him shake his head, his throat bobbing.
“More than three years.” He said quietly.
What?
“Three years?” I could not help but exclaim.
“Yes, but you will get to know more when you meet Raymond, finally.” He pursed his lips, studying my expression at the mention of his name.
When I heard his voice, I schooled my face into indifference so if he thought he was going to get me like this, he's got it all wrong. Poor Zonal.
“When am I going to meet your Alpha?” I arched my brows in question.
“Oh, you mean Raymond. I will set up a meeting with him very soon. You don't have to worry about that.”
“So what am I to do in the meantime if I do not meet him?” I needed to do something because u cannot be in the house, doing anything.
“He actually asked me to introduce you to the doctors working on the plague breakouts but I have to meet up with an appointment now. Probably we can get to do that tomorrow?” He asked.
I nodded. “Tomorrow then.” I agreed.
After saying goodbye, he left, and I went through the hospital, checking the state. The doctors were working really well.
I was proud.
Behind me, I could hear some hushed voices. I stopped, pretending to read something on the wall when the voices became clearer.
“Yes, they found the dead corpse just behind my house at the border.”
My brows creased together. A corpse?
“Really? That is scary.”
“Who knows? Our pack might be facing more threats than it seems and the Alpha does not seem to be working to do anything about it.” The person clicked her tongue.
The other scoffed. “You mean after he divorced his Luna before everyone and got married to that b***h named Lola. Huh? What did I expect?”
“Oh, Shantelle dear. She was such a good Luna. Bad thing she wasn't his mate.” My heart skipped when I heard my name. There were people who still remembered me. Gosh, my palms turned sweaty and my heart was beating in my chest erratically.
“Even if she wasn't, he should have chosen her since the majority wanted her.” She sighed.
“Who knows? This might be his punishment for letting her go like that. I wish Shantelle could just return to the pack.” I could hear the longing in her voice.
I didn't see the faces of the women who were talking but from their voices, I knew they would be old. They likely came for their checkups.
One of them gasped and that was when I keen my ears on them.
“Have you forgotten the prophecy that was made on the night the two packs were merged?”
Prophecy?
“W-What prophecy?”
“Two shall become one. A distant yet familiar disaster will arise. The four lineages shall perish if the sa —” Just as she almost finished speaking,
“Mrs. Fallon, you can come in.” A nurse interrupted them and I looked in their direction.
What? A prophecy? There was a prophecy?
