Chapter 10: A Strong Sensation

1216 Words
After hanging up the phone, Adam paced restlessly in his office. After a while, he hurried back to the safe behind his desk, entered the password, and opened it. He quickly pulled out a stack of photos. Removing the top few, what caught his eye was a photo of him holding six-year-old Alina. Alina's small hand was wrapped around his neck perfectly. The mole on the back of that hand was in the same position as Alina's. Adam swallowed hard, his heart pounding with excitement. Could she be the Alina he had been searching for all these years? Could she be the Alina he had been searching for over a decade? With the photos in hand, Adam sat down heavily on the floor, his brows furrowing. He had a feeling, a strong feeling, that his Alina had returned. His deep black eyes stared fixedly at the little girl in the photo, all thoughts sinking into the image. The girl in the photo smiled brightly, her starry eyes sparkling and captivating! Back in the office, Alina held the phone tightly in her slender fingers but didn't dial a number. She stared fixedly at the phone screen. To be honest, she didn't want her children to return to Jiang City. Their father was likely in this city. That night, when she fled in panic, she had no idea who their father was. She blinked her long eyelashes several times before gently sliding her finger across the phone screen. She dialed her mother's number. The loving voice came through the phone quickly, "Alina." Alina smiled happily, "Mom, what are you doing?" "Watching TV with Aila and Aidey," came the reply. Alina hesitated before speaking, "Mom, I've been transferred back to the head office. Shall we move to Jiang City?" There was silence on the other end of the line! Alina knew her mother didn't want to return to Jiang City. There seemed to be an indescribable pain associated with Jiang City! Seven years ago, she was also in agony. While taking a walk by the river, she saved a middle-aged woman who was attempting suicide. The woman was very beautiful, with an air of nobility and elegance! But she couldn't bear to live anymore! Alina persuaded her for a long time and shared her own experiences with her. Unexpectedly, they hit it off, knowing that she was alone just like her. She was determined to adopt her as her daughter. And so, she called her mom, and it had been seven years. And during these seven years, her mom had taken care of their family of four very well! In her heart, was she more of a mother than her own flesh and blood mother? Alina knew she was putting her mother in a difficult position. Just as she was about to speak, the loving voice came through the phone again, "Alina, Mom listens to you. Get everything ready. Before the kids start school, Mom will bring Aidey and Aila over. As for Aiden, you can talk to Fiona. It's also good for him to develop in Jiang City." Alina exclaimed excitedly, "Mom, thank you! Our life will get better and better in the future. Over these years, I've saved up some money. When I have some time off, I'll go and see if there's a suitable house. By then, the five of us will live together, and we'll be happy every day!" "Alina, Mom should be thanking you for always being by Mom's side." The voice on the other end of the phone was full of love and concern. Alina's throat felt sore, her eyes warm. She blinked her big eyes gently, took a deep breath, and said, "Mom, we're a family. Let's not say such things anymore. After I buy the house, I'll bring you over. We'll never be apart again." "Good! Alina, be meticulous about buying a house. You must choose a good location that is convenient for Aidey and his siblings to go to school. Mom has friends over there, and she'll help ask around, alright?" "Mm! Got it!" Alina nodded and hung up the phone. After making up her mind, she felt less troubled. An hour later, Adam's phone suddenly rang. Startled, Adam, who had been sitting on the floor, quickly got up to answer the phone. After sitting for an hour, his legs were numb, and his tall figure almost stumbled to the ground. He leaned on the desk, dragging one leg, and sat down on the chair. Ignoring the discomfort of his numb leg, he answered the phone. His heart was extremely excited. "Hello!" Just one word, but his voice trembled uncontrollably. Daniel on the other end of the line said, "Adam, Alina is twenty-five this year, majoring in design." After that, there was silence from Daniel. Adam furrowed his brows. "Is there more?" "No." Daniel replied somewhat timidly. There really wasn't any more information. "Daniel, if you're playing me, you'll pay for it!" Adam lost his patience and roared at Daniel. The wound on his forehead throbbed faintly, but he didn't care. On the other end of the phone, Daniel looked innocent and aggrieved. Getting angry, he yelled back, "Adam, give me just an hour, even if I had a time machine, I wouldn't be able to find out all at once! I've only found out so much information, and her home address is fake. Many traces of her have been erased, and even the department couldn't find her current address." Adam was trembling with anger. He enunciated each word clearly, "Keep investigating for me." Taking a deep breath, Adam calmed down. He couldn't rush. Alina was working in his company, so he could take his time to investigate. Meanwhile! Shadowfang City, in a small three-bedroom apartment. In one of the rooms, there were two single beds, a children's desk, and a black and white wardrobe. Despite its simplicity, it exuded warmth. A young boy, dressed in a black T-shirt and casual pants, looked exactly like Aiden, but he seemed even more steady. He sat at the desk, focused on the computer screen scrolling with data. His fair and tender fingers flew rapidly over the laptop keyboard, showing a level of proficiency as if he had typed it a thousand times. Suddenly, the phone in front of him vibrated. His crystal-clear eyes glanced at the phone, and when he saw "Master" displayed, he quickly answered. "Hello! Master." The young boy's voice was calm yet youthful. "009, someone's investigating your mom?" A playful voice came from the other end of the phone. "Oh!" The young boy's lips curled up with some interest, and he pondered lightly. He asked, "Who's investigating my mom?" Her traces had already been almost completely erased by them, yet someone was still investigating. "Haha, 009, this time it's someone you wouldn't expect." The voice on the other end was full of playfulness. "Just tell me, Master!" The young boy's voice was impatient. The other side sighed and said, "009, you have a bad temper and no patience. It's the people from Adam, the CEO of the company your mom went to." "Okay! I'll hang up." Aidey hung up the phone expressionlessly, his fingers flying over the computer. In less than a minute, Adam's information appeared before his eyes.
