I slowed my horse's pace down to a trot. In a moment, Erik begins to pass me. He tilts his head with concern. I smile and wave, trying to seem like nothing was bothering me. Erik returns my smile as he keeps pace with me.
The light behind the tree’s leaves becomes brighter. We are still surrounded by trees, we would be for quite some time it seemed. I tried to forget about what Ferron had said. I was already beginning to waver from my resolution. I had to keep my promise to myself.
Everything looks the same for the next hour. All of us are on guard for any surprises. Erik flinches at every twig snap. Ferron is quick to shoot a glance back at us every so often. I look away when he does. I don’t want any distractions from him. The trees offer no help though.
