Chapter Thirty-Three

TIANA I tied my shoes then stood to my feet and placed my hair into a high ponytail. I grabbed my water bottle then headed out of the guest room I was staying in.  I stopped walking when I heard voices in the kitchen. It was Monica talking to Troy.  "Baby, take it easy on her. She's been through a lot and she doesn't know what you do outside of racing." Monica said and my brows crashed together.  I heard him sigh. "She's naive, Monica. She still thinks our parents are alive. Don't know why she cares so much for them. The bastards deserve everything that came their way." I almost went in the kitchen but I stopped myself. How could he say that? It really made me think he had something to do with it but I don't believe he'd do something like that. Especially to our parents. Could he? "Well, let her ease into this life. Soon she'll be by your side helping you with the business." Business?  "I know. I just want the best life for her." He said and I felt that tug on my heart.  I decided to make my presence known. Their conversation ceased as I made my way to the fridge. I opened the fridge and grabbed my chocolate bar. The one thing that makes me feel better.  "Good morning." Troy said while I closed the fridge.  I did not reply. Why would I after what he said yesterday. I wanted to ask questions about this business he runs but I learned my lesson from being too curious a while ago.  Won't make that mistake again.  I walked out the kitchen and straight to the front door. I unlocked it and opened it. Before I could fully open the door, it was pushed closed back.  I sighed in frustration. I turned and faced Troy that held an apologetic look. "I'm sorry." He says.  I gave him a nod then went to leave but he grabbed my arm.  "Don't leave, Tia. I'm really sorry. I know you've been through a lot and it was wrong for me to tell you not to get your hopes up but you have to face the what ifs." I moved out of his hold. "I know that, Troy but you don't have to be harsh about it. You know me, I always have faith and I'm telling you I have faith that our parents are alive." He sighed. "My god, Tiana. Why do you believe they're still alive? Blood was in the house and their bodies were gone." "Why do you not care?!" I questioned irritatedly.  "Because they're not my parents. They're yours. I don't claim them. There's so much you don't know about them, Tiana and you're constantly defending them." My frown deepened as I listened to what he said.  "What's the reason, huh?" He glared at me as if struggling to tell me. It looked like he was having trouble telling me the reason.  "Okay, then. Stop trying to push me, Troy." I went to open the door and I was thankful he did not stop me. I slammed the door close behind me and went for my run.  **** Later the night I found myself at the diner where all the racers are. I was with KeKe, sitting at a booth just having a conversation. It was soon interrupted by another.  "Hello beautiful ladies." Xavier's familiar voice filled my ears.  "Hello Xavier." KeKe sent him a polite smile and I did the same.  "May I join you?" He questioned, looking at me with a grin.  I smiled and scooted over and he happily sat down next to me. Then we fell into conversation. It was all good things. Talked about how much life has changed for us and all. Then our childhood challenges, etc. Moments later of talking, KeKe left to get a drink and just left Xavier and I alone.  "So, Tiana....you have a boyfriend?" He asked me randomly.  I looked over and smirked. "Why? You're trying to score." "Yes—I mean no. I'm trying to get to know you better." He said.  I smiled. Xavier Hill was far from a bad looking guy. His tan skin made his gorgeous eyes stand out and his brown hair was mesmerizing. I wanted to run my hands through it so I boldly did so. I bit my lip as my fingers went through his hair. He was looking at me. His eyes turned a different color.  "No, I don't have a boyfriend." I answered, pulling back from him.  He licked his lips in the silence that went between us.  "So, you would answer yes if I took you on a date." He says.  I was amused. "I don't know. Would I say yes?" He chuckled. "I hope so." "Then ask." I said.  He grabbed my hands and placed a kiss on the back of them before looking at me. "Would you, Tiana go out with me on Friday night?" Heat went to my cheeks as a wide smile formed on my lips. "Yes." He smiled. "Great. We should exchange numbers to keep in touch." My smile slipped slightly. "I-I don't have a phone." I say, remembering that I threw it out the window during the car chase.  He shrugged before taking a napkin and pulling out a pen. He wrote down a number and wrote his name before sliding it to me.  "Troy has a house phone. I'm sure you're able to use that." He said and my smile grew.  I completely forgot about the house phone. "I will call you." I said.  Just when he opened his mouth to speak, KeKe came back with her drink. "The line is crazy." She laughed while sitting.  I laughed before looking back at Xavier who never took his eyes off me.  "I'll see you, beautiful. Hopefully before Friday." He said, standing to his feet.  "Me too." With one last smile, he walked off. I could feel KeKe's eyes on me and I turned to face her and I saw a smile on her lips.  "What?" I asked innocently.  "I hope to see you before Friday. Did he ask you out?" She asked but I knew she had the right answer in her mind.  "Maybe." I smiled.  KeKe squealed excitedly and I felt a few eyes on us. "Shhh." I laughed, hoping she would keep down.  "It's about time. Your dream is happening. You're going on a date with your crush!" She said loudly. I hid my head behind my hands. She was so loud but I was actually looking forward for this date.  It would help get my mind off other things. CARTER I scrolled through my phone for possible places for races. The latest arrests in Arizona for illegal racing. We've been on the road for hours. We were getting close to Phoenix and I was ready to find Xenon.  When I find him, I'll put his ass in the dirt after I'm done having my torcher session. No one steals from me and gets away with it.  "Boss man." Rick called out from the driver seat.  "What?" "What hotel when we get there?" He questioned.  "I'll let you know when we get there, Rick." I replied.  I've got some helpful information from my dead man David. Turns out there's a race coming up on a Friday night. Seems all the races have a random schedule. Monday, Thursday, Friday, Tuesday, etc. it's whenever the man in charge sets it up.  And Xavier Hill better pray for mercy.  He's going first and Xenon will be next to him.
