Chapter Thirty-Four

1333 Words
TIANA 8:30 p.m. It was Friday and I was excited. I did happen to see Xavier before tonight. He told me we were going to some restaurant not too far from where I work and after, we're going to his race and I did not mind.  KeKe had helped me with my new look and my clothes. I looked good and I was glad.  "You look delicious, girl!" KeKe smiled as she looked at me.  I smiled. "Thank you." I then looked at myself in the mirror one last time before walking away to grab my side bag.  I had gotten a new phone and I was working on getting myself a car. Troy offered but I did not accept. There was still strong tension between us after our last argument.  I don't care what he says. He can't know for certain that our parents are gone unless he knew something I didn't. It was fifty/fifty. I had faith and I hope it was strong.  A firm knock was heard on my guest room before it opened, revealing Troy.  I sighed, not really in the mood to talk to him. I didn't want another argument.  "Keisha." He said, motioning that he wanted us alone. After a moment, we were alone.  "I'll just give it to you straight, baby sis," he paused for a moment. "I don't want you to go out with Xavier. He's not a good guy." I frowned. Here goes. "Why? You're not exactly a good guy either." He sighed. "Which is why I'm telling you not to go." I shook my head in disbelief. Why was he trying to ruin this for me. "Why can't you leave me be, Troy? You just don't want to see me happy. I've been through a lot and you want to keep pushing me back." He glared at me. "That's not true, Tia. I do want you to be happy. You just have to trust me." I scoffed. To my luck I heard a car horn. I sighed. "I'll see you at the race." I walked past him and out the door. I honestly was having second thoughts of coming here but I had no choice. It was him or Carter.  I walked out the house and spotted Xavier's black charger. I walked over and got in. "Hello beautiful." He said, causing me to smile. "Hey." I buckled my seat belt and we were almost on our way out until my brother shouted for us to stop.  Xavier rolled down the window on my side and Troy walked up with a glare. His hand rested on the door of my side and leaned down, glaring at Xavier.  "You take care of her man. If I see a scratch on her, I'll murder you." He warned.  I rolled my eyes at his dramatics.  "Alright." Xavier replied back simply.  Then we were off.  **** CARTER I was finally here. I had Rick set me up at the Marriott hotel a few days ago. I was in the shower, thinking hard.  Xavier Hill was one of my targets. Placing everything I know on the table. He does illegal racing, he trades and bet on cars, gambles, and has a connection to Xenon.  I turned the shower off and grabbed the towel that was hanging over the curtains. I wrapped it firmly around my torso before stepping out.  My thoughts continued as I grabbed my shaving cream and razor, prepping for a needed shave. After a moment, I grabbed the can of shaving cream and sprayed a decent amount on my hands. I rubbed it in on my face before grabbing my razor.  My thoughts for possible racing sites flooded my mind. I knew a time and two possible places.  I had a gut feeling and one place in mind. Somewhere secluded and no cops. My guess would be at a preserve. Somewhere in the desert that connects to the city.  Sonoran. That part of Phoenix is known for being the spook of the town but I will be sending some of my men to the other spot and I go to the other. And when I find whatever spot is holding the race.... I'm entering.  **** TIANA "I had a great time." I said to Xavier. The date had gone pretty well. We sat at a nice diner and chatted about our childhoods and what we love to do in our free time.  "I'm glad you did, babe." Xavier said with a certain look in his eye.  I tended up a bit when he said that. Babe. It did not feel right when he called me that but I'll just brush that off. But the look he was giving me was intense.  "What is it Xavier?" "I know it was only the first date but I would like to take you out on another." Another date?  I mean, I won't say no because the last I check I'm single and I actually enjoyed Xavier's company. "Yes, I'll go on another date." He smiled but caught me off guard when he leaned in and tried to kiss me. I placed my hands on his chest and pushed him back gently.  "I'm sorry, Xavier, but it's too early for that. Let's not rush this." His smile only grew. "Anything you want, babe." **** I stood on the sidelines with KeKe, filling her in on Xavier and I's date. Xavier left to get ready for the big race tonight. There's a huge bet. Winner takes all. The car, the money, and stands a chance to take over the entire UIROT. (Underground Illegal Race Or Trade) Winner had to go up against my brother as Xavier told me earlier. Which makes me wonder why my brother was not with his crew.  Where was he? "That's sweet. Did you two kiss?" KeKe questioned.  I shook my head. Not on the first date. "No. It wouldn't feel right. Not just yet." KeKe gave me a look that represents me as a weird person for making that decision.  "Is there someone else?" I scoffed. "No." "You liar! Who would pass up a kiss with a delicious guy like that?" She laughed and to my luck, the engines of cars echoed the Sonoran crowded desert.  The crowd cheered on the three people that were racing tonight followed up by respect. Monica walked out with a baby blue flag with a megaphone.  "LADIES AND GENTS, welcome out our three RACERS!!" She yelled and the crowd grew louder.  The one woman and two men stepped out and stood in front of their cars and Monica made her way to them for introduction.  "We have Xavier Hill! One of our best racers in Phoenix!"  I cheered along with the crowd for a moment before taking a sip on my coke cola from my cup.  "Then, Idrina Savy! Very unique name by the way. She's joining us all the way from Rhode Island." More cheers.  "And our last racer... My heart stopped when I watched the man lift his head. Oh no. Please, no. "Carter!" Monica cheered along with the crowd. "He has not given a last name nor where he lives but that's okay. Everyone is welcome here." "He's a sexy thing." KeKe said which caused my heart to race even more.  My cup slipped out of my hand and land on to the sand. Keisha looked my way instantly when the cup dropped.  "Tiana?" Her voice laced with much concern but my mind was on one thing.  I had to leave. "I-I—" I could not speak. It was like my words were stuck on my throat.  "RACERS! We race in ten minutes!" "What's wrong, Tia?"  I shook my head. "I have to use the bathroom." "I know something is really wrong now. You never go to porter potties." "I'll be back." I breathed, ignoring her previous response.  "Okay." I walked away from her and went straight to the secluded driveway that was not too far from the crowd. I just needed a break. I sighed in frustration.  Can I ever be somewhere without him finding me?! "Dammit." I whispered slowly to myself.  It was about three minutes of me being alone. I let my thoughts course through my mind as I looked at the stars.  "It's beautiful out here, huh?" A strong voice interrupted my silence. I sighed already knowing who it was. I turned to face him and that familiar devilish smirk was on his gorgeous face.  "Did you miss me, babe?"
