TIANA
"There." Keshia, famous hairstylist in Arizona. Also my brother's ex.
I know, my brother has been around town but I actually liked KeKe. They were perfect unlike that Monica. He's with her for personal reasons.
His words not mine.
KeKe had good vibes.
I went back to reality and looked in the mirror at my hair. Yeah, I cut it for reassurance. I like it.
"Thanks, KeKe." I say while handing over the mirror.
"Your welcome, Tia. It's good to have you back. How long are you staying in Phoenix?" She questioned, setting her other supplies down.
"I don't know but it will be awhile." I shrugged.
"Why?" She asked curiously.
"I'm just not ready for college and I couldn't face my parents yet." I lied.
I didn't want to bring other people into my life that could possibly get hurt. Troy knew everything. I told him about Carter and I told him about our missing parents.
He told me he was going to handle Carter if he was to find me again. He said he won't let him get close to me. And I was happy.
As for our parents, he said don't worry about it, that he'll do whatever it takes to find them.
I was just taking a break from all the drama that's happened. I blame myself. If I hadn't been so nosy and confronted Carter, I wouldn't be in this situation right now. But I wouldn't know about my parents. It was a coincidence or they were in some deep shît.
"That's understandable. When Troy and I were together, he would always say how your parents would criticize him. Say he wasn't good at nothing and how he was a disappointment. That's horrible to live like that."
I sighed. It was true. Our parents did have their expectations and if we didn't meet them, they said hurtful words. Their words would abuse us emotionally, mentally, and religiously.
But Troy got it worse than me.
He would fight back and not back down. He was never scared. Of anything.
"It was. Can we change the subject? It's getting depressing." I joked.
She gave a small laugh before speaking. "You hear about tonight?"
I sighed. "The race?"
She nodded. "I heard Troy was racing tonight. Bets out being placed in as we speak."
"I might just go. Haven't seen him race in a long time."
"Well, it's settled. We're going to cheer for him." She smiled.
"I don't understand how my brother left you for Monica. It makes no sense." I say as I stand from the chair.
"He lost. I was with him for a while and we're friends. I have to get along with him." She laughed.
She's right.
"So, who's he racing?" I asked. She looked at me a bit hesitant but she answered.
"Xavier. Your...um.."
"Strange."
Never thought he was still racing. Xavier Hill, my past boy crush. We never dated but we did hang out. I just never admitted those feelings of liking him. That was years ago.
"Well, we better go get ready. I heard this is the starter." KeKe smiled and led us to her room for outfits.
This was going to be interesting.

CARTER
I wiped everything off the fvcking table. I was still in this fvcking basement and this Xenon was stealing right under me. It pissed me off on how everything was moving excruciatingly slow.
"Maybe You should give up on the girl, Boss man. May keep you focused on business." Amelia's raspy voice hit my ears.
I ignored her. She's been trying to get in my head through the hours. Why haven't I ended her life just yet, because she has served this family for years and the fact she's trying to push my buttons is because she wants to die.
By my hands and I wasn't doing it. She could suffer the rest of her lifetime.
"Boss man?" I heard Brian's voice.
"What?" Venom laced in my voice.
"I think we got a lead on Xenon."
I turned to face Brian. I gave him a nod and we went back upstairs to discuss it in my office. I went over to my desk and grabbed the new bottle of whiskey and opened it before drinking out the bottle.
"What lead?" I questioned as I sat in my seat.
"Candy was seen giving a package to a man. We went through the tapes here and at the airport. Candy gave them the money and was exchanged for a dime bag of coke."
I frowned. b***h was doing drugs in my estate. She's lucky she's already dead and dumped in the water. I kill her again.
"Back at the airport, the man was in al black boarding the same plane you and Queen got on a week before it happen."
"So he went to San Francisco and made the drop there or he met someone there to take it out of state?" I already knew where it was going.
"Since it was some of our men in San Francisco at your home. I called them to follow the man that fits the description at the airport. That's all they needed to know. Now I tried to get in contact with you to explain what was happening but a feminine voice answered and said you were busy and just ended the call."
My frown deepened. "That so?" I asked rhetorically but he gave a nod.
I knew who it was, it wasn't Tiana. She was always in her room. Sometimes I'd be with her.
Maria has made her way on my kill list.
"Where did they follow him?" I asked.
"Two possible places. A set of men saw two people that fit the description. One set out to Nevada and the other to Arizona."
"Idea on where in those states?"
"Las Vegas and Phoenix."
I nod. That was enough information for me. "We're getting on a plane in two days. We'll start in Las Vegas and work from there. Continue looking up on Xenon."
"Boss man." He said with a nod before leaving.
I took a long swig from the bottle and placed it on the desk, letting my thoughts corrupt me.

TIANA
It was a big crowd out here when KeKe and I got here. The loud music blaring in cars. When my brother saw me, he waved me over to his group. KeKe and I made our way over there and he pulled me into a hug.
"I don't want you placing any bets." He said in my ear.
I gave a nod. Remember what I said on bets. That's why.
POW!
The sound of a gunshot ringed in my ear. It was a warning shot, letting the racers know they had less than five minutes to be at the start line.
"I thought you were racing tonight." I said to Troy.
"I am. Not this round though." He said and he waved someone over.
"Wassup KeKe." He acknowledged her with a quick glance.
"Troy." She said simply.
I shook my head at these two. Just then the person he waved to had just made it to us.
"Troy, my man." That familiar voice said behind me.
I turned to see Xavier. He shook hands with Troy before looking at me. He smiled at me.
"Tiana. Forever gorgeous." He had his arms open.
I smiled back as I walked into his embrace. "Nice to see you too, Xavier." We pulled apart and he was still looking at me.
"Ready to race?" Troy questioned Xavier causing him to look away from me.
"Yeah. Bet everyone is waiting for X." Xavier said.
"Who's X?" I asked.
"You didn't know your bro-" Xavier began but was cut off by Troy speaking over him.
"It's nothing but a letter, Tiana. How about you and KeKe go find Monica while Xavier and I get ready." Troy said calmly.
My eyes narrowed at him before walking off with KeKe. Before we got far enough, I turned to see my brother with a serious look on his face as he talked to Xavier.
Weird.
