Chapter 7

[Gareth's POV] [Three years ago.] I could sense somebody from the woods. Intruder? I went to check. I was in human form; in case it was nothing. My wolf gets excited. I kept him in, but paid closer attention to the night. I heightened my senses and searched for location. At the east side of the property, where the moon rises. I stopped. She was standing by the old the old Birch – jeans and snickers, a plain light yellow shirt, hair tied behind her. Her presence was strong but her eyes were kind. I felt a tingle in my skin. She smelled of rain, forest pines, and wild Daphne. I could see her face in the darkness – young, maybe a little over eighteen. A strange longing to hold her enveloped me. I walked to her. She gazed at me. Her eyes. Curious. Nervous. Tender. I kept walking till we stood face to face. I inched further, closing the distance between us. I let my cheeks touch hers. She didn't move. I breathed her scent. It sent euphoria all over me. "You are." I whispered." Yes. I am." She breathed. I kissed her lips and they were warm. She kissed me back. The rain poured as I ripped her clothes away from her skin and she moaned and clawed as I enter her. I could tell I was her first. She had been submissive to me for three years, which was a big reason why I can accept her, a normal werewolf as my mate. But now, after she made a mistake and escaped, the first thing she said to me when she came back was "I want our mateship dissolved. Breech tree, at the Canopus border. Twelve a.m." "You lost our mate, you'll regret it, Gareth!"My wolf went crazy. I reached to the other side of the bed, but it was empty. I suddenly woke up from the dream. Thinking of what happened in last week, I frowned and a deep grueling sadness enveloped me. I grabbed my phone from the bedside table. It was three a.m. I grabbed my clothes and looked outside. The moon is about to set. It's the last waxing gibbous before the full moon. __ Fireflies flew around her. The moonlight shone on her, it made her hairlooked like golden instead of brown, and she looked perfect in her navy blue dress. There was no trace of emotion on her face but she looked calm and strong. I couldn't mind link her, I wasn't surprise about that. "Have you made up your mind?, Gwyneth?" I said before I caught myself. "I have." She replied, without any hestitation. "Alright then." I said. We stood inside the ritual circle and began the ceremony. I couldn't take my eyes off her. She uttered every word precisely, it's almost as if she had royal upbringing and was trained precisely for the moment. We prayed to the moon goddess to detach us from our bond. A distinct light ring formed around the moon and disappeared, and we know our plea was heard. "Let's get the rest of the ceremony going." I heard Gwyneth say. I nodded.I didn't let out any unneccessary emtion, but inside my heart, I was confused by her attitude. She stripped off her dress gracefully and She looked perfect without wearing any undergarments. I watched in dismay as she moved effortlessly through the darkness. The full moon cast its glow upon her bare skin. She shifted before I could say a word. The Moon goddess has heard and answered our request. It's our wolves' turn. Me too, took off my clothes and let my wolf out. Our wolves stare at each other. I realized we hadn't let them out together for a long time. I felt fierce pain in my heart. My wolf stopped for a second because I am suffering, but Thought of what she did to Melanie, I endured the pain. She is a danger to the pack. I couldn't have any empathy or affection for her. Her wolf was larger than I remember, and so much more stronger. The clouds covered half of the full moon. It's the signal to remind us it's time. Gwyneth's wolf howled, I joined her too, then the slience took everything. [Nayla's POV] [Three years ago.] I stood silently on Canopus property, my mind link fully open. I groped for my mate in the dark. I let my wolf send out a scent trail. He's near. I can sense his wolf. I let mine search for his mind link. He has built such secure walls. My wolf and I searched for cracks. We found it; a tiny crevice. Here. We sent the message. His wolf responded. He's coming. His name is Gareth of Canopus. I have seen him only once, at the Royal Gathering, two years ago. Rumor has it that the younger son of Dmitri -- Alpha of the wealthiest, and second strongest pack -- is a no nonsense man, fears nothing and does not entangle himself with emotional matters. But then again, royal wolf children are often painted in pictures entirely alien to their true selves. Whether it's true or not, I was to find out. He stood from across me, framed in the woods behind him. A rush of pure joy poured forth over me as he approached. He didn't recognize me from two years ago. I stood like frozen on the spot. I wanted to walk over to him, even run. I wanted to touch his face and soak in his presence. I wanted to tell him my true name, show him all of me. I stayed still. My heart beat faster than it ever did my whole life. I waited. I watched him coming closer until he stood in front of me, his chest heaving as he breathed. He moved his head close to my neck. I could feel his breath on my shoulder. He let his cheek touch mine. The Moon Goddess guided us to find each other. His lips touched mine tenderly and I parted them. I reached out to touch his hair very lightly and warm and fuzzy tenderness came all over me. A sudden gust of wind circled around us. Thunder rolled and rainwater fell. He wrapped his arms around my back and started kissing me hungrily, panting when he finally let go. "Mate." He said. I stared at him and nodded. He proceeded to kiss my neck and marked. Now, everything was coming to an end. __ I braced myself for the final blow. Violet and I had talked about this since we were little. We'd imagined it, hoped we never had to go through it. Yet as children of the nobles, we had been thoroughly trained and prepared for anything, and my wolf and I are strong.I have no doubts. The Moon goddess has sent us her signal. I let my wolf out. She stood still as Gareth lets out his. We howled, and the excruciating pain that hit me nearly knocked me off my feet. I clenched my fist and took in every bit of it. Every inch of me quivered. I gathered my strength and pulled myself together. But it didn't last long, our mate bond completely broke. I shifted back to human form, drenched in sweat. I looked at Gareth. I'm free. _ I fetch the spare clothes I left by the rocks and wrapped myself in it. Gareth was already clothed when I got back. "I need you to sign the divorce papers tomorrow," I said coldly and left. Michael will be waiting at the border. "Gwyneth," Gareth caught up with me. "Yes, Mr. Albrecht?" "You are still accountable for Melanie's miscarriage." I turned to face him. "Don't worry, Mr. Albrecht. I take responsibility for everything I do." I sneered."And I have a gift for your beloved Melanie." I left.
