Chapter 2

To be honest, the moment I caught them in bed together, I felt not only anger and hatred but also a strange sense of relief. For two years of marriage, this scumbag had refused to share a bed with me, claiming he was impotent. So I had no choice but to play the role of the "understanding wife." Now that his affair was out in the open, I was furious but also relieved. Finally, I wouldn't have to keep pretending to be so understanding anymore. I wouldn't have to swallow my pride and suffer in silence because of his supposed condition. "To hell with your sympathy!" I snapped. "If you felt so sorry for her, why didn't you do something sooner? Why marry me at all? Why not just tell your brother the truth and ask him to let you have her?" "It wasn't like I forced you into this marriage!" he shot back. "You were the one clinging to me, following me around, swearing you wouldn't marry anyone else but me!" "You were already messing around with your brother's wife, what the hell were you doing getting married in the first place?!" I snapped back. The truth was, he had wanted to be with her, but his mistress, Audrey, had decided she was better off staying married to his brother, Knox, and refused to get a divorce. Time passed, he got older, and the family started pressuring him nonstop. That was when he finally agreed to go on a blind date and met me. Once we were married, he'd kept his distance, sleeping in a separate bedroom all along, just to prove he was "saving himself" and that his heart belonged only to her. There could not be another man in the whole world as despicable as he was. Furious beyond words, his face turning red with rage, he raised his fist and swung it straight at me. I stood frozen, too stunned to react. But the blow never landed. Knox stepped in front of me in an instant and blocked it with his own arm. Knox glared at him, eyes blazing. "Keith, I'm still trying to respect the blood between us. If it had been anyone else sleeping with my wife, I would have killed them by now!" Keith froze, his expression shifting to something like panic. "Brother, I… I didn't mean —" I didn't let him finish. I raised my hand and slapped him hard across the face again. "Every single second I've spent with you has made me feel sick to my stomach. "Don't you worry, it's not just your brother and your mistress who are getting a divorce. I'm filing for one too. I hope you two cheating, shameless scoundrels get exactly what you deserve. May your 'great, moving love' last forever. I'm officially setting you free!" With that, I turned and stormed out, slamming the door behind me. I went straight back to our apartment, locked the door, and slid the deadbolt into place. As for how my brother‑in‑law handled the divorce talk with his wife, or how Keith tried to twist things and play the victim in between, I didn't care anymore. In the middle of the night, Keith showed up and started banging on the door, shouting and demanding I open up. I ignored him completely. He kept it up for more than ten minutes, until the neighbors started yelling and complaining through the walls. Only then did he finally leave, still grumbling and unwilling to accept it. But what I didn't expect was that the very next day, the mistress's own mother would march right into my office and start making a scene. Who gave her the nerve? Was she drawing inspiration from some terrible pop‑song lyrics?
