Chapter 5: Reconciliation

637 Words
“I don’t understand! I’ve done so much for you, and yet you treat me like this!” Zhou Yue cried, feeling wronged. The two glared at each other, their breaths quickening, the room filled with tension and anger. “I work so hard every day, and when I come home, I have to deal with your complaints!” Lu Yunfeng’s voice trembled slightly. Wiping away her tears, Zhou Yue shouted, “And what about me? I face so much at work, and when I come home, I still have to take care of your feelings. Isn’t it hard for me too?” After saying this, Zhou Yue turned and ran into the bedroom, slamming the door behind her. Lu Yunfeng slumped onto the sofa, holding his head in his hands, overwhelmed by regret and helplessness. In the following days, the atmosphere at home was exceptionally heavy. Both Lu Yunfeng and Zhou Yue deliberately avoided each other, neither willing to be the first to back down and apologize. Lu Yunfeng’s struggles at work showed no signs of improvement, and Zhou Yue continued to endure tremendous pressure at her company. Their moods grew heavier, and their longing for each other was suppressed by stubbornness. One day, while Lu Yunfeng was on his way home from work, he saw an elderly couple helping each other across the street. That warm scene instantly reminded him of the future he had once envisioned with Zhou Yue, filled with love and hope. He realized that they could not remain in this deadlock any longer. He decided to put aside his pride and take the initiative to reconcile with Zhou Yue. Although Zhou Yue claimed that she would no longer forgive Lu Yunfeng, deep down, she couldn’t let go of her feelings for him. Lu Yunfeng understood that his mistakes were unforgivable, but he was determined to prove his change through his actions. Lu Yunfeng stopped being impulsive. He began sending Zhou Yue messages every day, sharing updates about his work and snippets of his life. Although Zhou Yue rarely replied, he never lost heart. He started to reassess his career path, enrolling in various professional training courses to improve his photography skills. Gradually, his work began to attract attention and recognition from industry insiders, giving him hope of regaining Zhou Yue’s trust. On Zhou Yue’s side, although she pretended to ignore Lu Yunfeng’s messages, she read every single one carefully. She noticed his efforts and changes, and her heart began to thaw little by little. One weekend afternoon, while sorting through old belongings at home, Zhou Yue stumbled upon photos she had taken with Lu Yunfeng. The beautiful memories flooded back, and she found herself in tears. At that moment, Lu Yunfeng arrived at her doorstep. After hesitating for a long time, he finally gathered the courage to knock on the door. When Zhou Yue opened the door, their eyes met, and time seemed to stand still. “Yueyue, I know I was wrong. I’ve been working hard to change, hoping to be back by your side,” Lu Yunfeng said softly. Zhou Yue was silent for a moment before finally saying, “Come in.” Though their relationship began to warm, the shadows of the past still lingered. They needed more time and effort to fully mend the cracks in their relationship. Lu Yunfeng dedicated himself to managing his career, and his hard work gradually paid off as he received more job offers. However, he also made sure to balance his work and time spent with Zhou Yue, determined not to repeat past mistakes. Zhou Yue continued to give her all at work, but she learned to relax and not bear all the pressure alone. She began to trust Lu Yunfeng again, sharing her joys and sorrows from work with him.
