Chapter 3A week passes. Beto messages Aiden every day of it, sometimes taking hours to compose a message if Aiden doesn’t contact him first. There is no reason for being so awkward about any of this, though for Beto never being completely honest with himself about it, awkward is all he knows. He works as hard as ever, joins in with every conversation in the firehouse, even pushes and shoves over video games with Henry when he comes over like he always does. Everything in his life is the same as it always is, but in so many ways it’s like he is on autopilot. Aiden still fills Beto’s thoughts in ways he always has. How did he forget that he used to live constantly like this? Though there are some things about Aiden he is starting to acknowledge, when he could never allow himself to before.
