The Hybrid's Second Chance Mate

Chapter 3: Skylar

I ran away as fast as I could. There was no way that he was my second chance mate. I didn’t want one. I didn’t want to go through that kind of pain again. I just have gotten back to feeling like myself and now he has to come along. I feel the pain in my chest and want to run until I can no longer feel. I am outside getting ready to shift when I hear Keenan link me. “Sky, where are you?” “I am outside, I need to go for a run” I tell him before cutting the link. I know he will find me; he always does.

I take off running and soon I hear another wolf coming up beside me. Keenan was a magnificent grey wolf and stands about the same height as an alpha wolf. When I slow down to a stop, he nuzzles my side and I lay down. We just lay there by the lake for a few hours. “Keenan, what is he doesn’t want me? What is he hates that I am a hybrid?” I say through the link. “Sky, you never know what will happen or what he thinks if you run away.” His words sting a little but he is right. “Your right Keenan. I will have to face him and see what happens.” I nuzzle his head and sigh. “Keenan, what about you? How are you going to explain to your mate why you smell like me.” He gets up and yips at me. “Sky lets head back. I know that your father, Alpha Dominic and Alpha Xavier are in a meeting right now and we can talk with my mate together. That way you can get a feel for your mate too.” He made sense. “Well, I did promise you that I would help explain to your mate what happened.”

We get back and head up to my office. I have one of the guards bring Keenan’s mate, whose name is Cole to my office. There is a knock on the door and Keenan is right there to open it. I can see how angry Cole is. “Beta Cole, please sit down. There is something that you need to know about Keenan” he nods his head and takes a seat in front of me. Keenan is right next me and I can see that he wants to be next to Cole but I have to say this. “Beta Cole, I am happy for my friend and Beta Keenan to be mated to you. I know that you were not happy with my scent on him. I asked you here so I can explain to you what happened.” He nodded his head. “Cole I am a hybrid. I can eat like any wolf but I also have to have a certain about of blood every day. For me to attend any kind of meetings, I needed to drink from a live donor to keep my vampire side stable. Keenan offered for me to drink from him.” I can see the questions and anger in Cole’s eyes.

I sigh but Keenan speaks next. “The vampires that are in the royal pack only drink from living donors who are unmated so there are no issues with the donor’s mate. Skylar normally does not drink from a donor and would rather hunt and feed from wildlife but there was an incident that happened 10 years ago and it left her unstable.” Keenan then turns to me with sadness is his eyes. I knew that it still hurts to talk about Gabriel. “Keenan it’s alright.” I tell him before I look to Cole. “Cole, I lost my first mate in an attack. I locked myself away for four months. For my vampire side, if we lose our fated it’s hard to feed again since most of the time when a Full blood vampire loses their mate, they die within a year due to not consuming blood. It took 8 years for me to even be able to hunt again and yesterday was the first time in 10 years that I drank from a donor.” Cole nodded his head and lowered it. Keenan walked over to sit in his lap.

Cole welcomed Keenan and i watched as he wrapped his arms around Keenan. Cole looked up to me withe a sad smile. “Princess Skylar, I am sorry that you have been through that. I can relate to the pain of loss. I lost my parents in an attack with I was only a little boy. It’s not the same as losing a mate but I know that struggle with finding yourself again.” I smile at him and see that Keenan has nuzzled into his neck. Saphire is happy seeing our best friend happy and comforting his mate.

“Thank you, Cole, and please call me Sky. I am sorry for running out on your alpha like that.” He chuckls a little before speaking. “Sky, he will understand once he knows the reasoning.” I smile and then get up to move over to the bar. “Would you like anything to drink?” Keenan nods “I will take my usual” he says. “If you have scotch, I will take a glass” Cole says. I pour two scotches and a glass of white wine. I had both Cole and Keenan their cups while I sit behind my desk. “Sky, I may be out of place to ask this but please give Xavier a chance. He has spent the last 5 years traveling looking for you instead of getting ready to take over the pack.” I smile at how loyal Cole is. “I will give him a chance. I just will need time. “I tell him, which rewards me with a smile.

We sit in my office and get to know each other. I like Cole and he will be good Keenan. I even learn that Cole has a younger sister who he cannot wait to introduce her to us. There is a knock on the door before one of my guards enters. “My lady, the meeting is done for the day and your father requests to speak to you.” I nod to the guard and excuse myself. I follow the guard to my father’s office but I catch the scent of my mate before the door opens. I take a deep breath and walk in. I greet my father and then send him a link. “Really dad.” He smiles and links me back. “Sweetheart, he is a good man and deserves to know the truth.” I shake my head and walk into the room. I sit down on the chair opposite of my mate and wait for my father to start.

My father walks over and sits down in the chair next to mine. “Skylar let me introduce you to Future Alpha Xavier of the Howling Moon pack.” “It’s a pleasure to meet you Princess Skylar” Xavier says. I can see his hesitation. I smile and look to my father. I know he is trying to push me to talk with Alpha Xavier. I sigh and look to my father before looking back to Alpha Xavier. “Father, I will show Xavier around the pack. It will give us some time to talk and get to know each other.” My father smiles and nods his head. I get up and lead the way as Xavier follows me.

I walk out of the Pack house and towards the trees. “Um princess where are we going?” Xavier asks as he keeps following me. “Please Xavier, it’s just Sky or Skylar. I am taking you to one of my favorite places. No one will bother us there.” I can see the smile he is trying to hid. We continue our walk to the lake. Xavier is quiet hte whole time while we make our way thorugh the forest. When we arrive, I continue over to my favorite tree to sit down and lena against.

I look over to see Xavier standing there looking hesitently at me. I pat the ground next to me for him to sit down. He makes his way over and sits next to me. “This place is calming and has been a safe place for me when I need to get away to think.” I close my eyes and think about the memories of this place and feel the tears before I can stop them. I take a couple deep breaths trying to get my emtions under control but fail.

Xavier had shifted towards me and starts to wipe the tears away. “Sky, you can tell me when you are ready. I can wait till you are ready. Your parents told me that you lost your first mate.” I open my eyes to look at him and see that has nothing but kindness and sadness in his eyes. “Xavier, Gabriel, my first mate, was a vampire and was killed protecting me. I am sure my parents told you that much.” He nodded his head. “Skylar, they told me a lot but I want to hear it from you when you are ready. I am not here to replace him or to make you to forget about him.” He says with kindness in his voice as he places his hand on my cheek.

I smile and place my hand over Xavier’s hand. “Thank you, Xavier. I will tell you about him but first you need to know a little bit about me before to go any further.” I see his smile fall and he pulls his hand away. I can do this. “Xavier, I am a hybrid. I have a lycan and can shift but I am also part vampire and need to drink blood.” Xavier gets up and starts pacing. I knew that would be a problem. Most wolves hate vampires, especially after the attacks recently.

When Xavier stops pacing, he looks me in the eyes. “How do you feed?” I was shocked that he asked but he needed to know. I place my hands in my lap and sigh. “I mostly hunt and feed off of wildlife or drink from a blood bag. I haven’t drunk from a live donor for 10 years. At least not until last night.” I hear a growl and knew that was not easy to process. I know that pure blooded wolves do not take kindly to vampires. Sapphire whimpers in my head. “So, who did you drink from when you were first mated and what will happen if I accept you as my mate?”he growled out and it stung when he said that.

I can feel the tears as my chest starts to tighten. “When we mated, I can only take from my mate. I will become sick if i drink from another and it is seen as betraying the bond for my vampire side.” He stops pacing and turns away from me. “How did you manage to survive after Gabriel died?” I was shocked by his question. “I almost didn’t survive. I was in coma for the first two months and then I refused to eat or drink anything for another two months. It took 5 years for me to even get the strength to work out again and to walk more than 2 miles. This past year I have more myself than ever but still very weak and unstable. I have barley been able to drink blood and last night I fed from Keenan, it was only a mouth full before I was about to vomit.”

He looked angry and confused. “Most of the time when a pure-blooded vampire loses their fated, the other mate will eventually die too. They cannot drink blood from a living donor without getting sick. It sometimes speeds up the process or they kill themselves.” I took a deep breath since Xavier had turned back around to face away from me. “I only survived this long thanks to my father’s side of the family and for me being half lycan. If it wasn’t for that, I would have died. I even almost…..” I was cut when a link came across that we were under attack.

I got up and could smell the intruders. Sapphire was growling and ready to attack when the first rouge stepped out from the tree line. I growled out and let my aura out. I walked towards the tree line ready to attack. The rouge chuckled and then looked right at me. “My master will be pleased that you are still alive. After we killed your mate….” He didnt have time to finish since I lunged at him. I grabbed him by the throat but felt a sharp pain in my side. I growled and squeezed my hands around him throat cutting off his air. He pulled out the blade and shoved it into my side again but this time slashed it down. I winced in pain and started to lose my grip as I started to see the black dots in my vision. I knew I was not strong enough to finish him off but at least I will leave him a parting gift. Before I could react, more rouges showed up and started to attack Xavier. He attacked them and was killing them left and right. I knew this was my chance.

I let my claws extend out and slashed at his face. I then dug my claws into his throat and ripped it out. I fell to the ground as I saw more of my warriors emerge from the tree line. I also saw Keenan and Cole come running into the fray. I linked Keenan. “Keenan, I need you”I saw him running towards me with Cole by his side. He gets to the ground and puts pressure on my side. “Sky, hang on. s**t this is deep” Keenan says. Cole is right next to him trying to protect us. “Keenan, we have to get her out of here.” Cole says. Keenan nods his head and then steps away to shift. “Sky, I need you to get onto my back and have Cole hold you there while I run us back to the hospital.” I reach out to Cole. “I’m right here Sky” Cole said. “You need to help hold me on his back, so he can get me out of here.” I tell Cole. Cole nods but looks over to where Xavier was fighting. “I can get him” he tells me. “It’s fine Cole. He may end up rejecting me after I told him about my other side.” He looks sad and then I start to feel like I am about to pass out. “Sky, stay with me” I hear Cole yelling. I can feel Keenan trying to talk through the link but its fuzzy and souns like I under water. The last thing I see is Xavier ripping out a throat of a rouge before darkness consumes me.
