The Hybrid's Second Chance Mate

Chapter 4: Xavier

I watch as my mate runs at the man after he said what he did. Then more rouges start attacking. I jump into gear and take them out one by one. I try to find Sky since I know she was injured but the rouge won’t let up. More warriors show up and we are able to get the upper hand. I watch as Skylar kills the who I am guessing the leader of this group. Then I see her fall to the ground. I want to rush over to her but I have three rouges trying to attack me at once. I let Maverick take control and we make quick work of them. As we kill the last bit, I hear Cole shouting at Sky. I see that he has her in is arms while on the back of who I am guessing Keenan. They take off running towards the packhouse.

I don’t know what to do. “Go after them” Maverick growls in my head. I was still torn about what she said and would time but I want my mate no matter what. I take off running towards the pack house. I am stopped when I get a link from Cole. “Xavier where the f**k are you?” he says. “I am on my way back to the packhouse. How is she?” I asked him. “Why would you care?” what. What has gotten into him. “Cole why would you ask that, she is my mate.” I hear him laughing. “If she was your mate, you would have been here already” that just makes maverick angry and he takes over.

We take off towards the packhouse and enter the doors seeing Cole pacing. He stops and looks up at me and then bows his head. “Alpha”. He says. “Where is my mate beta?” maverick growls out. “She is in the hospital wing getting treated.” Maverick starts to walk towards the hospital wing when he stopped by Keenan at the doors. “You do not have the right to enter” he growls out. Why is he challenging me. “Move out of the way” I growl out. “No. You were about to reject her weren’t you. After everything that she told you and you couldn’t even look at her. She has been through enough. I am not going to lose my best friend.” I am shocked. Maverick whimpers and gives me back control.

I fall to the ground with my hand going to my chest as I start to feel pain at his words. “Why would you say that?” I asked him. “You turned your back to her while she was pouring out her heart to you. She almost killed herself when she woke up from her coma. If I wasn’t there…” Cole ran over to Keenan as he was about to cry. I could see the hurt in his eyes. “Keenan, I was never going to reject her. It was a lot for me to take in. I never knew what vampires go through when they lost their mate and Sky told me everything that happened to her what she had went through. She was answering all of my questions.” I look down to the ground and then looked up. “I want to be with her Keenan. I want her as my mate. It will take some time to adjust to the idea of her vampire side.”

Keenan gives me a hand up and we walked through the doors to the hospital wing. As we approached the waiting area, the doctor comes running out. I see the King and Queen talking with him. Then I hear queen Aurora start screaming into her mate’s arms. I rush over to them and see the look on their faces. “What's happening?” I ask. King Lucien looks to me and nods to the chairs. He sits down and pulls Queen Aurora into his lap. “Skylar is very weak and lost to much blood. Her body is shutting down so her lycan can try to heal her but with the blood lose and her not being able to feed properly, we may lose her.” I hear maverick howl in my head and feel my heart drop. “What can I do to help? I just met her. I haven’t had time to love her, or show the world.” I say as I feel the tears wanting to break free.

I see Queen Aurora shift in Lucien lap to look at me. “There is one way” she says but Lucien shakes his head. “She is too weak and may not wake up even with the smell” he tells her. “We have to try Lucien. She is my baby girl. I can’t lose her to something like this.” Aurora says as tears start to fall again. Lucien sighs and then looks to me. “Xavier this one way that may save her but we can’t know for sure with how critical she is.” I look at him in the eyes. “I will be willing to try anything for her.” I tell him. He kisses Aurora on top of her head and she goes to get up. “Come with me Xavier.” She says in a weak voice.

I follow her into a room and see my mate on a bed with doctors around her, and machines hooked up to her. I tear up seeing her in this state. “Everyone but Doctor Carter please leave the room.” Aurora says in stern voice. Everyone leaves but the once doctor. “My lady" he bows. "Why did you bring this young man in here?” he asked. “The young man is Sky’s mate. We need to see if her vampire side is still awake and willing to feed.” I am shocked at what I heard. They are going to try and get Skylar to bite me. “How is that going to work?” I ask them.

Aurora looks to me and then Dr. Carter hands her a blade. “I am going to cut your wrist and see if she will respond to it. Only her mate’s blood has the power to help heal her wounds at this point.” I wanted to ask more questions but Aurora holds up her hand. “Xavier, I will explain everything to you but can try this first. Please.” I nod my head. We walk over to Skylar and I hold out my arm for Aurora to cut my wrist. I then hold my wrist to Skylar’s mouth. Blood runs down her lips but she does not react to it. I start to feel my heart sink even more.

Her mom then opens her mouth and I see her fangs extend. I look to Aurora for a clue on what to do next but Maverick moves my arm to her mouth and use my other hand to close her mouth around my wrist. I feel her fangs pierce my skin but soon I feel her drinking down the blood. Her mother sits in a chair and the doctor checks her vitals. I start to feel dizzy and sway on my feet. I feel someone grab me and see that it was King Lucien. He helped me to chair after we were able to get Skylar to let go of my arm. The doctor bandaged my arm and then left the room.

I took a seat next to Skylar while Aurora was sitting in Lucien’s lap. “Xavier, I don’t know how to thank you. You just have saved my daughter.” Lucien says. “Xavier. I have somethings I need to tell you about my kind. But I am guessing that Sky has told you some of it.” I nod my head and tell her everything that Sky told me about vampires and their mates. “Xavier, when Sky lost her first mate, she was in coma for two months. Those two months we tried everything to get her to wake. Even did a blood transfusion but her body rejected it. After she woke up, she locked herself away in her room. Keenan walked in to check on her and found her bleeding out. She tried to kill herself. He was able to get her to bit down on his wrist to feed but that was the last time she drank blood from someone. If Keenan hadn’t found her, she would have died.” She tells me. I am shocked and now I understand why Keenan was harsh with me.

“I have a feeling there is more to this” I tell them with sadness in my voice. They both nod their heads. “When she started to get better and came out of her room, she would try to drink a blood bag but would get sick. She went almost three years before she was able to drink blood again, even it’s only a fraction of what she needs to drink. She only this year was able to get through a full training session without any issues. She also is not able to heal as quickly until she gets stronger.” I am trying to process all of this information. “If she was that weak, why did she attack that rouge.” I asked out loud. “Xavier to tell you the truth, we are not sure. There are two of them in the cells right now but I have a feeling they were after something.” Lucien tells me.

Then it hits me. “The rouge that she killed said that he was shocked that she was still alive after the death of Gabriel. That was when she lost it and attacked him.” The look on their faces says it all. “Xavier, they have been the ones who were there the night that Gabriel died or at least pack of the attack.” Aurora said. The pain and anger she must have felt. I could never imagine that kind of pain. I lay my head down on the bed and take her hand in my mine. I feel myself getting tired. I hear Lucien and Aurora getting up and walk towards the door. “We will leave you alone for now. We will send some food over for you to eat.” Aurora said. I thank them and let my eyes close.
