Chapter 6: Skylar

As we reach the doors to my father’s office, I start to worry about what he will think. “You don’t know what he is going to do, but I can tell you that he will stay by our side” sapphire said. “I hope so but what will he think. It’s rare that it happens.” “He will be shocked but he will love us. Maverick is already in love with us and I did tell him what happened.” “Saph how could you tell him” “It was to help keep Xavier calm” she tells me. I see her point but it would have been nice to know before-hand. I knew he was going to find out one way or another but this was too much right now.

“Skylar, what’s wrong?” Xavier asked me. I looked up to him and can see that he was concerned. “Xavier, what you are going to hear in that room you may not want to hear.” I tell him. “Sky, I will be right by your side not matter is going to be said in that room” He then pulls me into a hug and I can’t help the tears that fall. When he pulls away to look at me, he bends down to kiss my cheeks and then licks the tears away. “Thank you, Xavier. I am sorry for what you are about to find out” I tell him and can see sadness in his eyes. I sigh and go to open the door. We both walk in and go to sit down on the cough next to each other.

I look over to my mother and try to smile but I can see that she is worried too. I feel the someone trying to link me. “Sky, sweetheart. We can leave out the one part and let you tell Xavier about it in private” my mother suggest but if this is going to work he needs to know and having my parents present helps give me the courage I need. “He will have to find out one way or another mom. I just wished I had more time with him before telling him” I tell her. “Honey, we will be with you every step of the way and if he has a problem with it then I will set him straight” my father chimes in. I chuckle at my father's protectiveness over me.

I can feel Xavier looking at me. “My parents linked me and my dad is being his protective self” I tell him with a smile. “Sky, you know that I will be right here the whole time and I cannot wait to be able to mind link with you.” He said with a pout at the end. I smiled at him and leaned more into his side. I looked up and saw that everyone was here, including Xavier’s parents. I was not ready to share this bit of information with Xavier but it was a matter of time before I would have to tell him.

My father clears his throat and I know it was time to start. “Thank you everyone for meeting with me this evening. I know that you already had a long day but there is something that we need to tell you.” My father looks to me and I nod my head for him to continue. “10 years ago, there was an attack on Skylar and her first mate Gabriel. It was a pack of rouge wolves and vampires. I was outside getting ready to head towards the attack when Sky can run through the tress covered in blood. When we got to her, she was already screaming in pain and clawing at her chest. Before she blacked out, she told us where the attack happened. I handed Sky to my top warrior and he took her to the hospital for treatment. I ran to the spot where Gabriel was and found dead bodies everywhere. We were able to capture one of the rouges that were alive. The one that got away was the one that Skylar killed.” My father looked at me and then back to Xavier’s parents.

I shuttered thinking about everything again. The pain of losing Gabriel and what could have been. Xavier had pulled me into his lap and was trying to comfort me. I welcomed the warmth radiating from him for now. “But why would they attack them?” Xavier’s mother asked. I knew this was something that would come up eventually. I sighed and nodded my head. ‘When we talked with the rouge, we found out that they wanted the baby dead and they wanted Skylar’s blood.” My father said. I felt Xavier stiffen and then a low growl escaped him. I couldn’t look at him. I felt my heart start to race and Sapphire was whining in my head.

“What do you mean baby? Is there a child that we are not aware about?” Xavier’s father asked but his mother looked at him and must have saw something in my eyes since she shook her head no. “Honey, please do not ask questions that you do not understand.” She said. I saw the look of understanding in her eyes. I nodded my head and then looked to parents. I took a deep a breath and stood up. “I’m sorry Xavier.” I tell him as I back away from him. “What do you mean Sky?” he asked me.

I can see the hurt in his eyes as I move further away from him. I am close to the door and when I look up, I see everyone looking at me. “10 years ago, not only did I lose my first mate but also our child. I was three months pregnant when we were attacked. They wanted my blood and child because I am a royal hybrid and the strain of the fight and the death of my mate, killed our unborn child.” I felt the tears as they fell down my cheeks. I couldn’t look at them anymore. I had to get out of the room and that is what I did. I ran. I pushed open the doors and ran out of my father’s office.

I ran straight to my room and locked the door. I went to lay down on my bed and curled under my blanket to cry. I knew this was going to be the end. There was no way a wolf would want a mate like me. They want pups and I may never be able to give him that. I let even more tears fall as I curl up into a tighter ball hugging a pillow to my chest as I cried into my pillow. He is sure to reject me now. "You dont know that for sure. They want us Sky" Saphire whines before going quiet again. I continue to cry and the day starts to catch up to me as I start to drift off to sleep.
