Chapter 7: Xavier

I watch as Skylar runs out of the room. I can’t believe what she just said. She lost her child. I stand wanting to follow after her by her father stops me. “Xavier, I know that this is a lot to take in but please listen to what we have to say.” I turn to look at him and nod my head. “I will listen to everything you have to say but my wolf is pacing and wants to be next to his mate.” I tell him. He smiles and then we go to sit back down.

“Xavier, when we found her, she was a large wound on stomach. They tried everything they could to save her. We were so close to losing her too.” Queen Aurora tells me as she walks over to me. “Xavier, she may never able to have children. There was so much damage done and when we told her, she shut down even more. She…..” her mother was in tears and she held my hand. I did not like where this was going.

I had an idea of what happened but I need to hear is from someone. “She what, what happened?” I asked. I looked up and saw tears in her eyes and her father was looking to the ground. Keenan steps away from Cole’s arms. “I can tell them the rest from here.” Keenan says. I look to him and know that this is not going to be easy to hear. “Xavier, when we broke the news to Sky, she was a soulless person. The light in her eyes was gone. She fell into a depression that none of us knew about. It was four days after we told her she lost the baby." He took an unsteady breath before continuing. "I went to bring her a cup of blood and try to comfort her in any way I can but I was not expecting to see her on the floor almost dead.” I watched as I can see the pain in Keenan’s eyes. Cole moved to wrap his arms around him.

Keenan cleared his throat and looked back to me. “Xavier, I found her on the floor covered in blood and wounds around her neck and wrists. I did the only thing I could think of and forced her to drink my blood. I was so afraid to lose another friend. I sliced open my own wrist and forced her to drink my blood. I was a crying mess when Aurora found me. She pulled me away and gave Skylar some of her blood to help heal her wounds. There are small scars left if you look closely enough and she uses those as a reminder of what happened.” Keenan says as he turns back into his mate’s arms. Cole pulls Keenan’s head into the crook of his neck and Keenan starts to cry.

I am shocked at what happened and angry that she tried to take her own life. She has been through so much and it took her so long to recover. Queen Aurora places a hand on my shoulder and I look up to her. “Xavier, we all know how important it is for an Alpha to have an heir for the pack. Please do not reject my daughter for something that she has no control over.” I was shocked that they would think that. I place my hand over hers. “Queen Aurora of the Royal Vampire clan, I promise you that I will not reject Skylar because she may not be able to have my pup. We can adopt and I can name whoever I want as the next Alpha after me.” I tell her with a small smile.

“Can we go to mate” Maverick whines. I chuckle at how whiny he is being. “We can go to mate. Please try to be calm around her.” I tell him. “I be gentle with mate” he says with a purr. I look to everyone in the room and then to her father. “I will do everything I can to protect Skylar but right now, I need to be with her. She is hurting and I need to be there for her in any way she will let me.” I tell them. I get up to walk towards the door but am stopped by King Lucien. “Xavier, please take care of my baby girl.” Lucien tells me. “I will take care of her for as long as she will have me.” I tell him.

I walk out the door but feel that someone is following me. Before I turn around, Queen Aurora links her arm with mine. “Xavier, I am happy that Sky is mated to you and the goddess has given her a second chance at love. There are a few things that I will need to teach you about being mate to a vampire.” I nod my head. “Xavier, vampires feed off their fated for life. That was part of the reason why Skylar could not feed properly.” She tells me. “Queen Aurora, Keenan has already told me a lot and Sky filled me in on some details but I have a feeling that there is more to it.” She nods her head. “Yes, my dear, there is more to it. When we feed on our fated, there are two places that we feed from. The first place is the neck and the second is the wrist.” It all makes some sense now. “Is that why she clawed at her neck and wrists?" "Yes, that is part of it. When a vampire marks their fated, not only does it leave a mark but also leaves a small mark on their wrist. It almost looks like a small tattoo to someone who doesn’t know about our kind. That mark shows to other vampires that they are marked by their fated mate.”

I was shocked by that. “Does that mean when Skylar marks me, she will not only leave a mate mark but also a mark on my wrist too?” I asked her. She stands in front of me making me stop. “Xavier, when she marks you, you will be turned. You will become like her and if she bites you deep enough, your wolf will turn into a lycan.” I am shocked. “So, I will become like her. A hybrid.” I say in shock. “You will Xavier. You will become like her. She may not mark you until you are 100% ready to be like her. You can mark her without any issues but her bite will change you. It is something that you two will need to talk about. It’s part of the reason why I have not marked Lucien.” I am shocked. “Why? I can see the mark on his wrist but why haven’t you marked him?” I asked her.

She gives me a sad smile. “Xavier, the night I was going to mark Lucien, was the same night that every changed 10 years ago. I wanted to wait until Skylar was happy with her mate and ready to take over but that all changed.” I am shocked. I had no idea. “I am so sorry to bring it up. I…” “Xavier, no one knew. We were going to celebrate that weekend and hand over everything to them but fate had something else in store.” She said with a sad smile. I wanted to say more but she didn’t give me the chance. “Xavier, please take care of her. She has been through enough and we only want the best for her.” She tells me before she starts walking again.

We walk up two flights of stairs and come to the fourth floor. We stop in front of the door and I knew by the smell that it was her room. “Xavier, I am going to trust that you will do the right thing.” I look at Aurora and know that she wants to hear it from me. “I promise I will stay by her side no matter what. I plan to take her as my mate and I will go through the change if it means that I can stay by her side forever.” I tell her. She smiles at me and then pulls me into a hug. “Take care of my baby girl” she tells me before walking away.

I take a deep breath and open the door. I am stunned by the sight of the room. It looked like someone trashed the place. I walk further into the room and then come to another door. I hear quiet whimper like sound and knew it was Skylar. “Maverick are you ready for what we are going to be part of?” he is pacing in my head nervous. “I want our mate. I want to be with mate. Let’s go comfort mate.” He says back to me. I take a deep breath and try to open the door but its locked. I rub my hand through my hair and place my other hand in my pocket. I feel a key shaped object and pull it out. I smile and think about Aurora’s words and then the hug.

I use the key to unlock her door and open it. When I closed the door, I locked it again. I turned around to see my beautiful mate curled up in ball in the middle of her bad, covered by a blanket. I walked over and sit on the edge of the bed and wiped away a few tears on her cheek. I kick my shoes off and climb into bed next to her. I wanted to pull her into me but left my hand on her cheek as I watched her sleep. She starts to whimper and I had a feeling she was reliving everything that happened to her. I moved a little closer to her and felt Maverick purring. It seemed to help her calm down.

“Mate needs us. Her lycan calls to me.” Maverick says as he continues to purr. I smile and agree with him. “We will always be there for her. You ready to be changed?” I asked him. He chuckles. “I was always meant to be more. I am a strong wolf but always felt like something was missing.” He is right, I always felt strong but never completely like a wolf. Maybe fate did have a bigger plan for us. “Maybe what Queen Aurora said is right. Maybe fate has something bigger planned for us.” Maverick continues to purr and I feel Skylar move closer to me. I let her snuggle into my chest and feel her taking deeper breaths.

I smile knowing that Skylar finds comfort in me. I kiss the top of her head and wrap my arms around her to keep her close. I feel her settle more into my side and I feel her body relax more. “I promise I will always be here for you” I whisper to her before I feel myself start to get tired. I inhale her scent and let my eyes close. I feel myself at peace for the first time in who knows long. Between Maverick's purring and Sky’s sweet scent I feel myself start to drift off to sleep. I welcome the peacefulness I feel and fall asleep with my amazing mate in my arms.
